Videographer necessary/worth it?

Johanna, on May 25, 2017 at 1:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I am really up in the air about hiring a videographer. Originally I was not going to and was okay with just sticking with photos but now I kind of want one. I am going back and forth with myself because I don't want to cut the budget too close and hiring a videographer would leave us without much of a contingency. I found one who will do 6 hours for $1080 which I think is a good price. FH and my mom say its not worth it and we will never watch the video which could be true but I don't know. Will I regret it later if I skip it or is it worth sacrificing to have monetary peace of mind knowing I have extra money in the budget for unexpected expenses as the day gets closer?

Video just seems more real to me and I would watch a video over opening an album and just paging through pics.

This was one thing FH and I couldn't agree on. But we figured out pros and cons. & we ended up booking with one.

To me it was important to hear voices. laughter. Excitement. Tears. Everything pictures cannot capture.

Of all regrets I've heard brides and grooms discuss not having a videographer is the main one. I would recommend it if you can budget it.

We decided not to for the exact same reason as your FH and mom--we couldn't imagine actually sitting down to watch a video in the future. When we were honest with ourselves it just wasn't something we could picture doing. We would watch it when it was delivered, probably show it to a couple of family members, and that would be the last we would have any use for it. Not worth the money for us.

This was the one thing I WISH I had budgeted for/booked. I'm so sad we won't have one! So I say learn from my mistake and do it!

I absolutely think it's worth it. Pictures are great but can only capture so much. My sister's video came out so good that a videographer was the very first vendor we booked. For the record, when we want to look back on my sister's wedding day, we all watch the video and very rarely go through the album.

I want it more to be able to see what happened before I walk down the aisle, other than that, personally we don't really think we will watch it. We will be quicker to pick up the album than to watch the video.

I am like u but I think I am gonna go for it. Found two in my area for less than $700 for six hours. If money is the issue keep searching

Absolutely, if it is within your budget. I have only seen 40 seconds of my video (sneak peak), so far and I'm in love. I can't wait to show my grandma who was unable to attend our wedding.

I think this is a different priority for every couple. My husband and I didn't get one and it really wasn't even a consideration. We knew we'd never watch the video so we didn't want to spend the money, and we don't regret it. I love looking through our photos from that day and to me that's enough.

I am in the same boat as you and i still can't decide. I can't imagine going back and watching the video often, but part of me thinks about my future kids and grand kids and how cool it will be for them to be able to see my wedding. Let us know what you decided. Maybe you can help sway me one way or another Smiley winking

I decided against because I know myself and I know I'd never watch it, while I would frame and display photos.

We simply can't justify the cost, we have a family member who offered to film the ceremony, entrances and speeches only for us. They also did this for our parents wedding so it just worked out.

We just got our video back last night and I'm so unbelievably happy we decided to do it!! We couldn't afford the full day, and I knew the only part I would ever really want to rewatch would be the ceremony (you spend all this time planning it, but you come in at the last minute and barely get to see the room or faces of friends!). So I worked with a videographer on a package that would just cover the ceremony and some getting ready (he convinced me if makes for a better "story" when cutting the video, and he was SO SO SO right). The number 1 comment from my family that have seen the video today was how much they wished they did video at their weddings (my siblings and in laws, not really parents).

My package was for 4 hours of coverage and they cut a 3-5min highlight video and I get all the raw footage (including drone footage of my venue) and it cost me under $600... SO WORTH IT!!!!

We chose not too. I am not regretting it at all. I've talked to several people that had done it and they said they watched it the first year and didn't after that. That kind of expense didn't seem worth it to us and we chose not too. We did take the photos or rather several of them a hired someone who put the pictures to three songs and that was amazing. I can definitely see us watching that more. Plus my husband and I talked between the two of us about the pictures and were laughing and enjoying it all over again.

Necessary: no. Worth it: absolutely. I'm so glad that we had a videographer. We are looking forward to watching the video every year on our anniversary.

As someone who graduated with a degree in digital media production, I say go for it. That's the first thing I made sure to make a deposit for when my wedding planning began. I suggest looking in Thumbtack.com to see if you get any other quotes from videographers in your area. It's worth the splurge! If you happen to get married in Missouri, I'll do it for you! Smiley smile Videos are so popular right now, especially for weddings! Don't miss out on it. You're likely to regret it

I'm obsessed with wedding videography so I'm definitely biased here Smiley smile $1080 for 6 hours of coverage is an awesome price!

I think Mrs. Knolle nailed it - not necessary, but absolutely worth it!

There's just something about the video that really captures the emotions and energy of the wedding day. Being able to hear and watch the toasts again is awesome, and we're awkward picture-takers so we thought we came across much better in the video Smiley smile

We went through the same thing. My FH actually wanted one when we first got engaged and I said no. Then over the winter I decided I really wanted one. Pictures can only capture so much. I want to look back and see our parents, grandparents, friends and family! As many people will say, the day will go super fast and you cant see everything. I think it is really worth it.

I love watching other peoples videos, so I can only imagine how much I will love watching my own.

We felt the same way. But we thought, hey if you can afford it, I would rather regret getting it than not.

We shall see when we get our video back lol.
