Videographer: highlight video vs full film

Mackenzie, on July 17, 2020 at 11:11 AM Posted in Planning 1 11
I’m researching videographers and I’m torn between getting just the highlight video or both the highlight and full film video. Anyone have any insight into this? Did you just get the highlight video or did you get both?

We got both. I wanted to be able to relive our entire day rather than just bits and pieces.

It depends on whether or not you’ll actually watch it. I would possibly watch a highlight video, but I can’t imagine ever sitting down and watching the whole film. Most people I know just do highlight videos, but I know one couple that sits and watches their full video on their anniversary every year. For us, we just want the ceremony, and since it’s only going to be max of like 20 minutes we’ll have a friend record it and edit ourselves.

We decided to get both, mainly based on advice I have gotten here on WeddingWire. I’ve seen several brides disappointed that certain moments were not included in their highlight videos. Plus, I think having the entire video will allow you to see moments that you didn’t get to experience the day of. And, some of my relatives are getting older, so I wanted to make sure I have video of them I can revisit when they are longer with us.

Our videographer contract includes a ~5ish min highlight reel and then the digital footage of our ceremony, speeches, and first dance. I believe I can also do an la carte add on. I'd talk to your videographer about their options and if you are able to add on to your contract later too if you change your mind

We got both! I watch our highlight film much more frequently, but I'm really glad we have the reception toasts recorded in full (in addition to the ceremony)! In hindsight we actually wish we had the toasts from our rehearsal dinner on video as well, but that would definitely have been a big splurge. 💸

Definitely both! I cared way more about the full video than the highlight reel, actually. The highlight reel was nice to share with friends and like on Facebook and such lol, but the full video is what we shared with our families and watch on our anniversary, and it's what allows us to really feel like we're reliving the day.

We originally contracted only the highlight video, which is really nice to see the whole day all packed into 7 minutes.

My husband later got me the ceremony cut as a birthday gift. We won’t watch the ceremony as much but it’s nice to see the pieces of the ceremony that I couldn’t see (like my grandpa escorting my mom down the aisle).

I would go with both , We’re also doing both. It would be nice to go back and see the full version especially because that day may be a little hectic and you won’t be able to take it all in

Our package came with a highlight reel, a 30 minute film and all the raw footage of the day. Idk if we needed all the raw footage, it's over 4 hrs long, and we'll never sit down and watch all 4 hours again. We did watch it all when we first received it...that's it. The film the put together for us very nice. Unless you're savy enough to take all the footage and make your own film, it's worth it for them to make one for you. I'm happy we have a professional highlight reel and 30 minute film.

We got an entire video package that included a highlight film (about 5 minutes), our letter readings, our first look, our entire ceremony, speeches, and special dances. We love our highlight film and watch it often, however, I could not imagine not having everything else! Having our ceremony to re-watch is probably my favorite. It goes by so quickly, so being able to sit down and watch it again is super special.

I say all that to say, I would suggest getting more than just a highlight film Smiley smile .

I never actually thought about that. That's a great thing to think about . I think I would want to get both honestly.
