Videographer and Small Wedding

While my fiance thinks a videographer is ridiculous (he begrudges even the photographer, as he worries about having to pose unnaturally and cameras "ruining the moment"), we did end up booking one, as it was one of my "must-haves." I came across an old edited family video the other day, and it moved me to tears. It was so special to be able to relive that gathering and see all the faces of people I loved. Hence why having a great wedding video is so important to me. We ended up selecting the lowest package with just one videographer, but I am still weighing the option of having two - to capture multiple angles / make sure nothing is missed. We'll probably end up sticking with just the one as a compromise, particularly since our wedding is fairly small, but for those of you that had a wedding video, did you have just one videographer or multiple, and for what size wedding? Did the camera(s) feel intrusive? Was everything you wanted captured, or were there moments that were missed?

We had one videographer for our 65 guest wedding. The video was absolutely beautiful and he got all the shots he needed to get. We would not have even known he was there if we hadn't paid him & received our video. He stayed in the background but still captured lovely footage.

From my experience as a bride, one videographer was enough. He captured some of my husband getting ready and some of me getting ready, and he got lots of fantastic coverage of the entire ceremony and the fun reception Smiley smile Just like I say how a skilled photographer can get beautiful shots from multiple angles, I believe a solo videographer can do the same.

I had looked into a videographer and saw a couple in my area that offered a 2-camera option where the second camera is static (unmanned) while the videographer moved around. If you truly want two different angles, you should see about that option because it saves you a lot compared to a second cameraman.

I personally decided not to have the video because it wasn't necessary and my wedding is so small one photographer will be able to get all the angles and shots I want.

My videographer had an unmanned camera and one he moved around with (like Van Pear mentioned). I thought it worked out great.

To save money, you might consider only having the videographer for the ceremony and the first hour or two of the reception. The bridal party getting ready is boring footage for the most part.

I recently went to a wedding that was videoed and I don't even remember seeing the camera people. However, they also had a drone camera and that was super cool! Everyone loved it.

We had two videographers for a 25 person destination wedding. I'm very, very glad we did it! They were a little intrusive during the "getting ready" stuff and had me redo some shots, but they were very much in the background for the ceremony and reception.

Totally worth it, in my opinion!

There are different styles of videographers, so if you want to the fly on the wall type, make sure you're getting that. Because some can be intrusive.

With regards to 2 vs. 1, you will get a fuller picture with 2. But, the best way to make a decision on this is to view their films. Ask them to show you films with 1 videographer vs. 2 and see how you feel about the difference.
