Video? Is it worth it?

Lindsey, on June 3, 2020 at 1:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Now that I am downsizing my wedding this summer we are saving a lot of money on food and alcohol. We’re on a pretty tight budget to begin with, and want to save for a house. But, because so many people won’t be able to be there, we have tossed around the idea of hiring a videographer. It is really expensive, so we’re trying to decide if it’s worth it or not. Anyone that had a videographer think it was definitely worth it? Not so much? Thoughts?

I had a videographer and i totally thought it was worth it. but i've got friends who had one and didn't because they only watched their video once or so. i do think if you've got a good photographer then that's enough and you could nix the video

My husband wanted one and I didn’t know why. Now months later it was totally worth it. I wish he would have shot in 2k.

Our photographer was great, but I love the video because we weren’t staged. I just finished our trip video and included some of the wedding footage on there if you’re interested to see!

I had a videographer for my wedding and I'm so thankful I did. My husband felt it was unnecessary, but I wanted something besides photos to look back on our wedding day. Because you've had to downsize, I would think a video of your wedding would be even more meaningful because you can watch a video with those you had to uninvite because of having to downsize.

I love my photos and I’m totally fine without a video. If I had another thousand to throw at it maybe I would have but to me it wasn’t worth it. No regrets.

Videos are great, but think about it long term - How many times in the coming future will you go back and watch the video? With technology changing constantly, will it be DVD, just in the cloud, who will watch the $1000s spent of video in the coming years? Share it once or twice with your children (MAYBE)... I think about all the videos I take during concerts... (do you?) - how many times have you gone and re-watched those? (Not a great comparison, but....)

I think it's totally worth it if you can afford it. If it's going to stress you out, or make you go in debt for it, or anything else like that, then the cons outweighs the pros, in my mind. We're looking into hiring a local college film student to save some money on it because of this pro/con situation.

We have a friend that’s a film student and thought of that option as well! I think we want to be able to watch a video of the ceremony and important moments, but aren’t necessarily looking for a highlight reel or elaborately edited film. That’s where I’m struggling with the “is it worth the money” piece because I’m not exactly looking for the usually offered product.

We had a videographer and it was 100% worth it.

If cost is a factor, as someone said above, look into local film schools.

We didn't do a video, and I don't have any regrets. We have tons of great photos, and those are enough for me. But I know myself and my husband. We would never watch that video.
