Video games at reception?

Karrie, on October 9, 2018 at 4:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hello,

I was just wondering what people thought of a reception having a section of the room with a couple of arcade machines, or consoles connected to TVs. I know this is pretty ridiculous and not everyone will want to play games, but there will be a regular dance floor, music, and dinner tables for people to have fun at too. This is probably not possible or practical, but it was just something I always thought about and wanted.

Are you and your fiance & friends super into video games? Or do you work in video games? To me, this would be odd to see at any adult event or at a wedding at all. If you have kids there, they will most likely take over it anyway.

Hi Karrie! Welcome to the WeddingWire Community! I think that if you are making a whole game area at your wedding separate from your reception space, that would be perfectly fine! I would just caution you to have the games too close to the dance floor or music because the noises from the games may clash with the music! Also, this is your wedding! If you want to have video games, and you think your guests would enjoy playing them, then go for it! Is this going to be a theme at your wedding? Or, is it just an additional form of entertainment?

I think that’s awesome. Smash bros and Mario Kart would be perfect for that! My FH and I are gamers but we don’t have a separate room available to do this in, other wise we would totally steal your idea!

I am up for it! I think it is fun and unique. Although I feel like people should just dance and spend time with others at a wedding so as cool as I think it is, I would probably stay away from it if I was a guest.

Video games are an awesome idea! Kudos to you infusing your own passions into your big day in such a unique way. I briefly toyed with the idea but my crowd are hardcore partiers. Who am I kidding I'm still toying with the idea lol

I think it's a cool idea, especially if you know your guests would be into it!

That's an awesome idea. We had board games and such and was disappointed only a few people participated. The week of the wedding my husband suggested taking it up a notch and doing like a Mario kart thing. But it was too much to plan at the last minute

Sounds super fun! My FH and I are big gamers so I’d love something like this. We probably would have something like this if we had the room or the money to afford it
