Very Non-traditional Rings

Rae, on January 17, 2020 at 3:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

The Internet tells me that millennials are killing the diamond industry, but every discussion I see about rings is all diamonds.

Is anybody opting-out of the whole diamond thing? Anybody going for a silicone ring or some other non-metal or a more humane and/or environmentally friendly option?

I love the idea that the commitment of marriage is a decision you make every day. That you must keep recommitting to the life you've chosen. So when we have to replace our rings it's just another chance to reiterate our commitment to each other.

One of our colors is antique brass, so this is the ring that we will be exchanging on our wedding day.

And I'm an outdoorsy girl and I've seen someone lose a finger because they were wearing a metal ring so a metal wedding band was always gonna be a NO for me.

I love diamonds, and a Millennial...so I don't fall under that Smiley tongue

We are going to be buying silicone rings in the next couple of months for days that we are doing outdoors work and such. I have been looking at the silicone rings and it gets a bit overwhelming cause there are so many colors to choose from!

I’m a millennial with a bunch of small diamonds (3/4 ct tw, 20 stones) but I have silicone bands for the gym. My fiancé plans to exclusively wear silicone because of his job

FH has a silicone ring that he wears now (I told him he can't wear his actual wedding band until we're married Smiley winking ). I'm planning on getting a silicone band for vacations or things like that.

My band is tungsten and is as plain as it can be but I wanted that for functionality purposes

My FH is a machinist and made my ring out of titanium on his own time. He's making his as well so we match. Then we're having them engraved with our initials and wedding date. Sure, it might not have diamonds or is flashy, but I couldn't be anymore happy. I bawled when he gave it to. Def about the meaning, not about the glam. That's just my opinion though!

My Fh and I are doing tungsten wedding bands and my engagement ring is Saphire for my birthstone. I’m thinking of proposing to him on our one year engagement anniversary with a silicone ring too though

Boomers literally say that about everything us millennials do!
I have my engagement ring, and then my enso ring for workouts and camping. My SIL actually only wears her enso ring now. You can have both a pretty ring set, and the enso ring for doing whatever, or just the enso ring. It's your decision because it's your hand! I like the color though!

I didn't want a diamond because I have read and seen too much conflict about them. I was also worried about losing a precious stone, so we opted for lab created aquamarine and sterling silver. My e-ring was VERY inexpensive.

For our wedding bands, he just got some sort of tungsten band from Amazon. I got mine from a shop called Carbon 6 in New Jersey. They make glow-in-the-dark bands and I am an 80's kid and couldn't pass it up. My ring is their Universe ring. It's unique as no two are the same, and it glows a very bright Aqua color. I cannot wait to wear it every day! They're very pricey but I waited for their Black Friday sale and wasn't disappointed. I got it for a steal!

This isn't quite what it looks like at night but it's close. Because it has the shimmer, it glows in little patches/clouds instead of solid like this. And It's very pretty and bright!

I never wanted a diamond ring so my guy opted for a fire opal, which I love . And if the diamond industry is going out of business, it's about time! Diamonds are not rare and are actually worth less than a lot of other common gemstones. It's all about their marketing! I'm glad people are switching over 😁 love the brass btw 🔥💖

We have purchased both silicone & metal rings. They will be our “work” & “weekend” rings. My FH works in a malting facility & I definitely don’t want him to lose a finger!!

We're getting traditional gold bands (mine is recycled rose gold, his is white gold) but also plan on getting silicone bands as well. I'm an outdoorsy girl too, and work as an athletic director so part of my job is running sports practices, instructing fitness classes, and teaching rock climbing, so I have to remove my diamond and rose gold e-ring daily. I already bought myself a silicone band I wear as my e-ring sometimes, and it's great because I don't have to remove it and replace it when I'm doing multiple active things throughout the day. Otherwise I find myself forgetting to put my ring back on and going ringless. Since I've never worn rings before the silicone band is a lot more comfortable too, and much easier to get sizing right. Even walking the dog or packing a bag is easier with a silicone band compared to my diamond e-ring. My FH is an engineer and really into mountain biking and cycling. Both my FH and I liked the idea of having "real jewelry" for date nights, special occasions, and work events, but since we are both active we like the idea of having a safer and less expensive ring we can wear while playing with our dog, out on adventures, traveling, etc. My mom never had an engagement ring and had a simple wedding band, so I liked the idea of something simple and classic and didn't feel like I needed to put diamonds on my wedding band when I already have one on my e-ring.
