Very confused re: nyc marriage license

Hello everyone!

FH and I successfully completed our marriage application and scheduled an appointment with the City Clerks office. I received an email confirming the date and time. I read a few articles online that mentioned something about a Microsoft Teams link and Conference ID but never received either in our confirmation email. However, I logged into our nyc.gov/cupid account and the confirmation page told us to return back on the day of appointment and there’s a button that will activate on the day / time of our appointment. Have any other couples not received the video chat link or conference ID? What should I do? This process has been a bit confusing and with our wedding being 6 weeks away I’m just afraid of doing something wrong as I’m not tech savvy at all.

I'm neither a COVID bride, nor am I anywhere near NYC, but I would call on Monday (and believe me, I get that calling on a work day is often problematic - and full disclosure I hate the phone.) and see if I could reach someone to ask questions. If you can't reach someone that way, then I would send an e-mail - to a *person* - and see what they say. Just explain you're not the most tech savvy and you want to make sure you're doing this right. I bet you aren't alone.

Thank you Becky. I’m sure many other couples are overwhelmed and confused by this virtual process. Maybe I’m just old school (haha) but I honestly wish we could’ve done all of this at the courthouse so if something went wrong we’d have a human being to speak to. I’ll place a phone call on Monday. Thanks for all your help! 😊

I had the same problem. What I did was go to a town on the outskirts of the city that’s not as populated and get our certificate the same day.

The offices are not open so there is no one to call. If you don't see the button on the Cupid page on the left side underneath your appointment date, use another internet browser like Internet Explorer or Google Chrome and log in there. It may look different there. I do see a button on my page, but it will not be "open" until the day of your interview which means even if you click it, nothing will happen until the day of.
Getting that appointment is the hard part so you've already done a great job. The rest is having your partner with you and all the necessary documents for your appointment. Also, I would make sure it is within 60 days of your wedding date or you have to reschedule. Good luck.

Thanks Michelle! Yes, the button is currently gray which I assume means it won’t be activated until our appointment. As far as the Microsoft Teams app is concerned is that relevant to our appointment? Once the video chat button turns blue on the appointment date, will it automatically connect to the video conference? In my confirmation email it says if couples are using a mobile device they must download Microsoft Teams to participate in the video chat. However, the Cupid page says to return to the portal on the day of our appointment. This is what I found so confusing.

This is message at the bottom of our confirmation email. I downloaded the application through the App Store but I read a few articles online that said in addition to the confirmation email, couples would receive a Microsoft Teams link and Conference ID.

This is an excerpt from a wedding photographer blog (everlystudios.com) . The email I received after we scheduled our interview only included the date and time and a pdf file of acceptable forms of identification. A Microsoft teams link was never included in our confirmation email.

There should be a way to e-mail the person you have an appointment with directly. Does the confirmation e-mail let you reply to a person? Ours did and we got responses within decent time. Best of luck!

Thank you Marisa. Unfortunately, the confirmation email doesn’t include any contact information. It only verifies the scheduled date and time. By any chance, did you receive a Microsoft Teams link? We didn’t and that caused us so much confusion. If we login to our Cupid portal on the day of and press the “enter video chat” button, will it automatically start the conference ?

If you need an appointment sooner than later I can give you a number to call on Monday and you’ll have an appointment within a week and your license the same day. We got ours this week.

This is what caused total confusion:

I’ve read some wedding blogs online that mentioned confirmation emails would include a Microsoft teams link. Do you still have this information? We had a 9am-9:45am appt today and we logged onto the teams link and no one joined. It took as so long to get the appointment, I am worried we won't get our license in time.

Hello Mary Elena, I am debating doing a virtual or in person appointment but I was curious about the questions they ask in a virtual appointment and how they verify you’re in the state? Thanks in advance!
