Hi everyone, I need some advice. I’m in the process of booking a few vendors for my wedding, and some are asking for a 50% deposit. I understand deposits are normal, but I’m a little nervous about paying such a large amount and then worrying whether the vendor will actually show up.

Is it generally safe to book vendors here on WeddingWire? What are some good ways to protect myself before sending a deposit? Should I always ask for a contract, references, proof of business, or use a certain payment method?

I would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has booked vendors through WeddingWire before. Thank you

I wouldn't ever use a vendor without a fully signed contract and I definitely wouldn't give them my money without it being signed first. I say this as someone who didn't have a contract with my florist and it was a huge mistake looking back. I also would make sure you vet the vendors as much as possible. Depending on the type of vendor I wouldn't even consider booking them without either meeting them in person or at least a phone call or video chat to make sure you actually vibe with the person. I found several vendors through WeddingWire, but not all of them.
