Venues response to covid rescheduling

Allison, on April 4, 2020 at 8:07 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 9
Hi all! I just got off the phone with my wedding venue. They said if we do need to reschedule our June 27th wedding that they would not issue any refunds and it had to stay within 2020 (could not go into 2021). Based on availability they said they might need to schedule us on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Is anyone else running into a venue this strict? We are pretty frustrated with these options if it becomes necessary.

My venue was very understanding and worked with me.
We changed the date so there was no need to ask for a refund.
so you are saying that even though you have already paid, your venue is not letting you move your date to 2021? They are forcing you to get a date in 2020 that may be a week day?

Correct! They said we cannot roll into 2021. We would have to get married in 2020, even if it’s a weekday.

Hmm, I would look at the contract again and see what it says.
I would also tell them that since you have already paid and they are refusing to work with you in a time of a global pandemic you will be writing a review.
No one will want to come to a place that didn’t help a paying bride move her date. You would think they would be happy to have you move yours to 2021 so that they can accommodate other brides wanting a 2020 wedding.

Yes I agree. Fortunately my fiancé is a lawyer. We are ready if it becomes necessary! But hopefully everyone keeps socially distancing and we will be okay. Fingers crossed.

What does your contract say. You have to read the wording and fine print to see what it says some places are really good others are so busy you will just have to take left overs. Sorry it’s happing but i see I more and more people it is happening with. I wish the news would get involved but so far none wish to

Contract says they will offer something of “similar experience or item” so my fiancé is going to fight and basically be “you charge less for weekday weddings (50% less) so you yourself acknowledge it as not similar”. He is a lawyer and ready to fight if we have to.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I am having a similar experience with my venue. Currently scheduled for 6/12/20 in Malibu, CA. Our venue is telling us the same thing... so frustrating. My fiance's parents are lawyers so they have been helpful but technically our venue is within legal parameters based on our contracts. Wish there was a magic ball to tell us when this would be over.

I'm so sorry. It seems that the responses are all over the map, from - "yeah sure, it's no problem!" to "nope, sorry, it's your issue and we have no flexibility."

My venue in NYC is willing to give us 50% back if we reschedule ourselves due to "loss of revenue". We can reschedule the date with no issues (wasn't specific on the year), if NYC isn't in Phase 4 (where they fall in the categories). So... we're sticking with our original date, hell or highwater, because we can't afford to lose 10K and see nothing for it.
