Are these people crazy or is it just me $6000 food and beverage minimum? Seriously?

You really should look at a different venue. Lots of them allow outside caterers, and you can get a bartender and provide your own alcohol, and will have lighting included, that sort of thing.

All I can say is well done. My venue charged me a reasonable rate for everything. Cocktail reception approx 1200.

It's not nuts, it's just not in your budget. Sounds like you need to find another venue.

Those who do understand the logistics but yet don't have the high expectations and who are more forgiving are told by vendors and others that their wedding will be the disaster of the year if they don't go with x, y, z that wedding caterer/vendor provides that they do not want or need. Being flexible is given an equally bad rep, so no one really wins.

See about getting a different venue that is blank slate without minimums to be able to afford what you want.

We only spent $1800 on food for my 1st wedding... and we had 300 guests.... and it was seafood, so $6k is crazy. We haven't looked at venues yet, but we're only having about 60 guests and expecting to pay about $1500 for food and about $1000 for alcohol... Hopefully less.

It does depend on your location too, I guess.

Tell me about it! I’m in tears! Planning a Florida wedding and found the ceremony site for the date I want for $2800! But the reception is $15,000 minimum for food and drink!!!! I’m not paying that! And the food they have is not what I want!
