Venue under new ownership!!!

I just found out that the venue I chose is changing ownership and my even coordinator said her position at the winery is being terminated and she doesn't even know if they will honor the current contract. I got a really good rate. Can they do that? I'm so upset I jsut ordered my STD and have already booked vendors. Don't they have to honor the contract?

    I would think they would bc that is just crazy to call other ppl besides you and say you have to sign a new contract!! But then again ppl are nuts these days...good luck i hope it all works out!!

    The sad thing is that they do not have to honor the contract. Smiley sad I have seen other brides describe similar situations as yours on here. The best thing you can do is contact the new owners and let them know you have a wedding planned there and that you have a contract. Ask them what they plan to do about events they were already booked under the previous ownership. There was recently a story in the news not too long ago about a very popular venue being closed or changing hands and they did not honor any of the contracts. I can't remember the name of it; maybe someone else will. I hope the best for you tho girl! I would definitely talk to them tho!!!

    I did as soon as I heard and they didn't even call me back. i am so upset I just orderd my STD and i don't think I'm going to find anywhere else that wants to do it for the price i originally got. Venue & sit down served dinner all for $2990-

    I'd be very suprised if I did, maybe it's gonna have to be Vegas afterall Smiley sad I'm so dissapointed I am on a very limited budget and live in Suthern california any suggestions for venues within my budget would be greatly appreciated.

    Wedding insurance? I havenever heard of such a thing? I didn't even know it exisited.

    If the venue was purchased, and they intend to continue operations as an event venue, they likely would have bought all the contracts as well. I would contact the venue via a certified letter, and enclose a copy of the contract. Tell them you expect them to uphold the contract and see what happens.

    Yeah, some people (not me) get wedding insurance. I believe its for when things happen that are out of your control. ie. you have to postpone wedding because of weather or sickness, venue/vendor goes out of business (you'll recoup your costs), or if someone doesn't provide their service, say your limo doesn't show up, then it will cover the cost of getting another mode of transportation, be it another limo company or whatever.

    I thought they had to honor the existing contract. They are purchasing the previous company- which means they are purchasing all it's assets and debts- which include your contract.

    If they don't, you can sue for damages. Lost deposits, replacing items like the STDs, etc. I'd keep calling them.

    But it's in their best interest to honor the contracts. Even if they don't make much money on them- some is better than an empty venue. Most people book their venue at least 6 months in advance. The chances they can get new clients booked before your date is pretty slim.

    I'm a horribly mean person- but don't rule out going to the media if they won't honor the contract. The last thing the new company will want is super bad publicity when they are trying to build a business!
