Venue That’s Never Been Done Before

Bridget, on October 14, 2019 at 8:12 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11
Hi all, so we’re planning on getting married next October. We are between 2 venues for the reception and I could use some advice.

The first option is a fire hall- it is beautiful and I feel it would be less stressful because weddings have been done there before.

The other option is a school auditorium, which has never been done before. It is a big open space that will be able to hold the guest count. The downfall of doing it at the school is that a wedding had never been done before and it would be a lot of work on us to prepare everything for the day. Just wondering if anyone else has been in the situation and what worked best for you?

Thanks!

I think it depends on how much work you'd have to do..... How different is it from the fire hall?

We’d have to supply tables, chairs, linens, bar tenders, bar drinks, catering, cocktail tables, and whatever extras I don’t know that also go along with having a wedding reception.

I’d go with the fire hall. Honestly, unless you’re going to have a coordinator that will help with the set up, that’s going to be a lot of work at the school.

Unless you have lots of help I would go with the fire hall. Having to bring everything in to a venue is a lot of work and coordination.

It doesn’t sound like there are any pros to using the auditorium over the fire hall.

My aunt just last month had her reception in a elementary gym. She had rectangle tables they school already had all dressed up. Lots of dancing space. But other than that is wasn't anything to look at because we were in a gym. It can only be so nice unless your having a wedding planner with a Prada Gabana eye.

The pros are that it’s 15 minutes closer to the church than the fire hall (30 mins away from church) there is no price for renting the space, and we could do it on a Saturday rather than a Sunday if we did it at the fire hall.

I feel like you're going to be stressed out with other more important details, especially as it gets closer to your wedding day, that adding all this work will be too much.... I'd probably go with the fire hall

My SIL had her reception in a school auditorium. My MIL has a friend who is a decorator for weddings and they said it was a pain but I've seen pictures and it was gorgeous. So... a lot of extra work, but cost effective. My husband and I paid more for ease (our venue was gorgeous too but less work). I would evaluate who is going to help make the auditorium a "wedding" venue before making a final decision. You will need a crew to help you. Good luck and happy planning! 🍀

I'd also go with fire hall unless the cost diff was truly that much more even accounting for the rentals and other things

Go with whatever is more "all inclusive" and more of an easier route-meaning you don't have to bring as much stuff in. Or, whichever place that companies have more experience working in. If it makes you feel better, guests have no problem driving 30 minutes from the church to the reception hall.
