Venue says no liquor, do it anyway?

Allison, on January 29, 2021 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
A venue I am looking at says only beer, wine and champagne. No hard alcohol or open bar.

What kind of trouble could you get in if some guests or you bring hard alcohol anyway?

They could shut down your event in the middle of your reception, especially if it violates their state license. Hardly seems worth it to me. If you want to serve liquor as well, keep searching for a venue with a full general liquor license.

Read your contract. It should state in there what the penalty is for breaking any venues rules. It is typically a hefty fine and/or shutting down your reception.

Your venue could potentially lose their liquor license which would hurt future events as well. If liquor is important to you, don't compromise and look for a different venue.

Your venue will talk to anyone they see drinking something other than what they know has been provided, and that can be very frustrating to your guests as well.

As mentioned by others, you can be fined & the venue could get into serious trouble!

If you violate the venue's rules, they will shut it down and fine you. That is why venue coordinators exist: to ensure you follow all their rules.

You can have a great event with just beer, wine, and champagne. If it's your dream venue, it's fine. Otherwise, keep looking.

You can get into trouble, possibly legal and def will be fined by the venue. They will also likely end the event. Don’t mess with liquor laws.

I don't recommend trying to sneak in liquor. Weddings are expensive, and it would be a massive bummer if you were fined or had your event shut down (probably without reimbursement) because of it. If the liquor is something you'd really like to offer at your wedding, I would look for a new venue that permits it.

I am pretty confident you could get fined by the venue. Also I think it’s perfectly OK to not have hard liquor if they allow everything else

As others have said, fines, shut down your reception, they could loose their license which in turn could affect other weddings. If having hard alcohol is a must have for your wedding, find another venue.

You could get into some pretty serious trouble. If you want to serve liquor, then I'd find a different venue.

Umm...that’s illegal and would put your entire event in jeopardy.

What on earth?? If hard alcohol is important to you, prioritize a venue that allows hard alcohol.

I found myself in the same issue. We just found a venue we really liked but unfortunately the owner isn’t okay with hard alcohol on site. Even though it’s a great venue and we love it, it was definitely a no for us in the contract. We really wanted to enjoy cocktails not just wine.
