Venue Regret

Erika, on August 18, 2020 at 10:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
So I feel a bit embarrassed even writing this, but my fiance and I changed our venue for financial reasons and I'm having a lot of trouble liking our new venue as much as I loved our first one. I know it really shouldn't matter, marrying the person I love is more important, it's just difficult when you've had a vision for the day and now it's completely changed. We went from having a modern, boho chic vibe to having it in a historic building that to me just looks more old than anything else. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Or even telling me to suck it up buttercup? Thanks for listening to me rant!

I get that feeling. Almost every decision I made I had to rechoose (our bridesmaids dresses were discontinued, my mil disliked my first dress etc).

It’s tiring and frustrating. I won’t tell you to suck it up (but it’s what I’m trying to do), however maybe find small details you really like that you didn’t think of. Like our ceremony location we switched it to a boat. Our favors can be a little more special because we’re down to 25 people.
Hugs from me, cause i feel ya!

Is there anyway you can have the location of your dreams? Are they willing to come down in price to meet your budget? Don't give up, and there are ways even an old historic building can provide that chic look you want.

Is there any way you can decorate it to a point where you’d like it more

Can you keep looking? I would consider a weekday night or even a brunch wedding to get a venue that fit my vision. In my opinion, the venue is a big part of the look & feel of your wedding day.

For our local reception, we changed our theme after we booked our venue. It would have been hard to swallow throwing away our 25% deposit but we both wish we chose a venue that fit our theme better. It would have been sooooo much easier and better to decorate. It all worked out fine but we still talk about it.

I completely understand where you are coming from, many of us have had to make big changes to our visions with postponing/changing our big days due to the pandemic. However reframing it was really helpful for me, and might help you too?
When I think about which weddings I’ve most enjoyed our have been the most special, it comes down to the people, the vows, the happiness of the couple, maybe the food or dj - but the venue is really just the background. If we’re honest with ourselves, many guests won’t put much thought into the decorations. Right now the venue seems critical be it is one of the first and largest upfront costs, but the more important aspects of the day will shine through. Can you plan to take more pictures outside or with a background besides the venue interior? Is there a part of the new venue theme that you really like but wouldn’t have worked before? Does it have a better dance floor, special spot for a sweetheart table, better layout for your family to watch your first dance? Try to find the first upside, and more will follow!

It is what you make it. You can always do a vow renewal on your 1st or 5th wedding anniversary and have it in a venue you like more.

I completely understand! I am in the same boat the venue that I really wanted wants a RIDICULOUS amount for our area, so I am not going to be paying for it. So I am going with my second choice which is still nice just not as nice.
