Venue: Rain Back-up Plans

Lynn, on June 3, 2019 at 12:32 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
I haven't started looking at venues yet. Wondering what I should look for as far as rain back-up plans for the ceremony, as Plan A is an outdoor ceremony. Will a covered pavilion (with open walls) be okay in Texas if it rains or do I look for someplace that has roll-down plastic for the walls?

I think either option should suffice. It's really more of whatever you are comfortable with and if the pavilion is large enough to make sure people would all comfortably fit (and you don't have several guests half in and half out and soaking wet).

I agree either option should work.

We chose a venue that had several options for an outdoor ceremony. The week before & after our wedding: sun. The day of our wedding and almost entire mini-moon: rain! The back-up spot (outdoor patio overlooking a lake), worked out even better.

We choose an outdoor venue for the ceremony but they do have a backup plan for if it rains. I'd ask that when you go on tours.

Check with the venue’s contact person about their Plan B.

I don’t know where in Texas you live. But I’m from the DFW area and in the springtime I’d be concerned about hail. So I would personally look for somewhere that had an option with walls but that’s just me.

Either option should work but keep contingency plans in mind when during venues. Ask the coordinator what their plan would be.

A friend of mine learned this lesson the hard way on her wedding day. An hour before the outdoor wedding it POURED! The groomsmen had to stop getting ready, rush to the venue, rearrange the indoor reception to make room for the ceremony. They got married in a lodge at state park and the staff was only available to set up and tear down once we left. That's it.
