Venue over booking my wedding date

Bless, on January 3, 2019 at 8:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello I need advice, I spoke to a coordinator for my venue Jan 2018 and got a proposal and my date available, then I find out that she no longer works there and spoke to the new coordinator and also had a meeting and agreed with the date and proposal and had that sent to me and I put the deposit down. Now just under 4 months before my wedding, I’m being told I have to change my date because they booked another event (a concert) and I need to move my wedding. I have already booked honeymoon tickets based off my date and sent invitations out with have receiving RSVP already.. they say if I don’t move it they will just give me my deposit back.. and I’m screwed so I’m asking anyone please - is there something I can do?

Do you have a signed contract with both your signature and theirs? If so, that’s a legally binding document so they can’t just tell you to change your date. If you have all of the necessary paperwork, then it technically becomes a legal matter. Only speaking from experience, since I work as an event sales manager.

Yes look at the contract first.
Also start making a pros cons list of keeping your date and going somewhere else or changing your date. If out of town guests have already booked flights and accommodations you should probably keep your date and go elsewhere. Are your vendors able to go to another venue with little to no extra charges?

Yes it’s likek I’ll need to change venues, but I had this venue taking care of everything and so if I go else where it becomes up to them and what’s available less than 4 months away.. but thank you for your advice

Where do you live? Was it all inclusive?

What does your contract say? You may be able to take legal action to keep everything as is.

This is what a contract is for. Read it carefully to see what your options are but the reality is you likely won’t have time to enforce the contract before your wedding. I’d try settle with them maybe find a new venue and vendors then make them pay the cost difference.
