Venue Increased Prices

Kimberly, on October 17, 2020 at 10:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Has anyone ever booked with a venue, signed a contract, and then received a new contract months later with increased pricing across the board? I booked with Belhurst Castle & Winery back in February for my October 2021 wedding, paid a $800 deposit, then made another $5,200 in July. September I received an email saying they reviewed pricing and made changes I needed to sign. Increased ceremony fees, chair rental fee, food Increased $4 per plate, increased minimum expedeniture by $1,000, it seems like a lot! All in all, it raised the price about $2,000-$3,000. I went back through my original contract, and there is a bullet stating they can change prices. Am I just out of luck?! I have never heard of this happening. I know food prices can change, but everything?

If it's in the original contract that you signed, then unfortunately, it sounds like they're allowed to do this. If you don't agree with the new pricing, will they refund what you've already paid? That's a really awful clause for them to have in the contract, since to me, the point of the contract is to lock in pricing, date, and policies. If you do decide to sign the new contract with the updated pricing, I would ask for that clause to be removed from the new contract so they can't raise them again.

Oh no. You signed the original contract which stated they can raise prices. So, legally, theres nothing you can do.

Unfortunately that's something you have to pay attention to in contracts. If it states that prices can change then that's a risk you take.

For ours I personally made sure our contract didn't start that.
I don't think there's anything you can do because it's in the contract.

It sounds like you might be stuck if it's in the contract. Though still shady of them imo Smiley sad Sorry you have to deal with this!

I think you’re obligated since it’s in the original signed contract. Since we postponed from 2020 to 2021 our venue advised us that we are subject to new pricing, which is in our contract. But some of the things we were paying extra for as an upgrade are now included in their standard packages, we actually saved some money!

Venues will do anything to make it work for them and to make sure you don't get your money back unfortunately. I had booked a venue and when i went to see it the lady that showed it to me told me i would be able to have both sides of the rooms if more people were coming. When i went to see it with my mother and told her more people were coming, she said the second side of the room had been book months ago which is not what she told me in the beginning. We had so many problems with them and i had signed the contract and sent a $500 dollar deposit already which i basically lost i decided not to do our wedding there as the communication was also awful. For 9 days i called and emailed her 5x and she didn't even bother to call me back or email me.

Seems pretty reasonable since they included that in the contract. Many vendors increase their prices every year, so you venue may be reacting to high prices on rentals and food. They include that clause in their contract so they don't have to eat any increases that come their way.
