Venue food/drink minimums

Anyone else struggling to find a venue where you'll meet the minimum for food/drinks? We're only having about 50 guests & even if we choose the most expensive plan we are nowhere close to most venues 5K minimum.

Have you actually talked to them or just been emailing/sending inquiries? I only ask because I counted one of our dream venues out when they sent me their food/drink minimum price list. Turns out that minimum adjusted with the guest list. So if we had 100 guests it would have been $20,000 but if we had 50 (which we later considered) it would have been $10,000 and included all food & drink for the night plus welcome appetizers and cocktails the night before. I have kicked myself 1000 times for not having a smaller wedding. lol

Our venue is very DIY, you just rent the space and bring in your own caterer, bar, etc so we didn't run into that. If you haven't booked a venue yet, maybe try to look for something like that

Our venues is 4k for a Friday evening and we are having no problem meeting that with only 25 guests. I can't believe you can't meet a 5k minimum with 50 guests with a nice dinner and alcohol. Can you add on more during happy hour, some late night snacks, stations, ect?

Thank you all for the great advice. We definitely want to have a wedding on New Years because we're making it a black tie event. I've spoken with a few vendors and even if we choose the higher end food/drinks we're still not meeting that minimum. I guess I'm gonna try to find a venue that doesn't have a set limit or increase or guest list I guess. Thanks again!

How are you not meeting the requirements with 50 guests, especially for a “black tie event”? We nearly reach that with 40..

Black tie is really strict and has set standards.
