My fiance and I want to have our wedding reception in a ballroom of a hotel. So, I am going over the contract for our reception venue, and there is a clause that basically says that the hotel reserves the right to change our reception ballroom, as long as on the day of, they provide a room that can hold the same number of people.
Of course I have asked to remove that clause before we can sign the contract, however, the event specialist we are working with says that they can't do that.
I personally find it pretty strange, because, when we went to see the venue, we fell in love with a particular ballroom, and that is pretty much why we decided on that venue (and that's what we would be paying for)! We did not see any other room in that hotel either.
In other words, if we sign that contract, on the day of our wedding, what prevents the hotel for saying, well, unfortunately, the room you reserved is no longer available, but here is the janitor space (which holds the same amount of people) ?
I am really worried that they may have double-booked us, and instead of coming clean, they are trying to cover their behind by reserving the right to assign us any room they please...
Am I overreacting? Is this normal in a wedding reception contract? Has anyone else been in the same situation, and if so, how did you handle this?
