Venue change

Amy, on June 11, 2019 at 12:30 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
My venue has changed management, so now I’m dealing with completely different people then who I met with months ago.
Now I’m getting extra charges, one was for the grooms cake, we were told by cindi ( previous woman in charge) that FH needed to pick the design he wanted on his cake, never said it would cost extra. I recently sent what he wanted and it would be an extra $40, we decided to just leave it blank. So, today I get an email that for the filling in the cake is another $25, I don’t remember asking for any fillings. The venue is all inclusive, and a wedding cake and grooms cake were both included, I assumed that would be with the designs, silly me for assuming.
I’m so ready for this to be over. I don’t want to say anything about how displeased I am to the new coordinators until after, im afraid if I say something before they will sabotage my day.

You have a contract with the venue under the original coordinators, right? Go back to that contract, and see what is spelled out specifically. Just because someone new takes over, does not mean that your contract terms change. If you find that there is nothing in the contract about extra charges for the grooms cake, you need to contact these new people and tell them that your contract says "xxxx" and make them honor that. That is the whole point of a signed contract. Someone new cannot come in and change everything without your approval, consent, and a new signed contract.

Please don't let these people walk all over you. It would not be in their best interest to sabotage your day, because word of mouth spreads really fast, so do reviews, so they want to keep you happy--even if they won't admit it. Look at your contract again.

I encourage you to THOROUGHLY REVIEW the contract. Does it mention anything about transfer of responsibility? Are extra charges for the cake listed in the contract, or does it mention the cake at all? If the extra charges are NOT in the contract, tell them tough luck, but you get what you were initially promised, a filled cake with a simple design.

I would definitely talk to them. No reason to be afraid, just schedule a meeting or phone call and have your contract readily available for reference. Despite new management, I feel like they should definitely be following the terms of the signed contract. Ask questions related to the costs and mention how those fees are not in the original agreement. Good luck!

That sounds terrible and wrong. They're supposed to be honoring what you already signed up for before them! Otherwise it doesn't really make sense to charge you all these extras

The contract just says wedding cake and grooms cake, doesn’t mention fillings or designs.

So I could potentially see where this is coming from. Are they talking fruit fillings or just buttercream? Fruit fillings or even like crumbles of cookies or something are usually extra at any bakery (at least the ones I talked to). Just flavored buttercream as the filling was not extra. I am not sure why it would be an extra $40 for the groom's cake though when it says included in your contract. So I would ask them about both, be up front and mention the contract!!
