Venue change 7 months out....am I crazy!!!!!!

heidi, on January 21, 2014 at 11:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

Am I crazy to be trying to look for a new venue 7 months out from the wedding? The venue I choose originally is just not working ... They have terrible customer service, I feel like a bother every time I have a question, they just changed my event co- ordinator and now I'm doubting the place is big enough. Advice please

What will happen with your other vendors? Considering I made all my major decisions with 6 months or less, 7 is plenty of time. How much do you stand to lose by changing/breaking a contract at this point?

I got engaged in December and I am planning a July wedding, so I don't think it's that crazy. Planning a wedding in my city doesn't seem like it's as stressful or cut throat as it is other places based on seeing other posts though.

I started planning a wedding 80 days out from our original date.

granted we're having a very small wedding

but I think 7 months is a lot of time and if you aren't happy with them and don't lose anything go for it! You'll probably end up happier in the long run!

As long as you wouldn't lose anything I'd say go for it - just double check any contracts you've already set in place. Even call them going "Hey there seems to be issues with the current venue so I am looking to change venues, is that going to be a problem?"

Worse they can say is it will be but given you are 7 months out I highly doubt any of them would unless you booked them through the venue.

This just happened to me also! My venue was wayyyy too expensive for a wedding package for the number of guests that we have, so we choose a cheaper package. Well, I didn't realized that I wouldn't be able to get my guest list low enough(and it keeps getting bigger), so now I no longer officially have a venue. I have contacted my venue to try to work something out, several times, but they always seem like I'm bothering them. Why would they waste time on my cheap wedding, when they can get way more money from someone else willing to pay for a more expensive package?

I'm a little over 8 months away from my wedding but we are going to look at some outdoor places at a state park this weekend. Hopefully something will work out.

My date will also be changing to 10/04/2014 once we choose another place.

I hope everything works out for you!

If you don't like them, find a new one. This is your wedding, not keep everyone happy but yourself ceremony. If you are not getting the warm and fuzzes now (before your wedding) what do you think the day of your wedding will be like at that location? In 20 years you will want to look back on happy memories, not what ifs...
