Hi Everyone!

So our venue is allowing us to bring our own food and alcohol. We definitely want to save money and provide our own food instead of getting it professionally catered / plated. Does anyone know of companies or even what its called to hire just staffing? Essentially, we need them to staff the entire venue, serve drinks and plate the food as family style.

Thanks!

It’s not rude to exclude people who you don’t have a close personal relationship with.

I understand that aspect of it but our wedding is more of the marriage of both our families not just 2 individuals since we come from a different culture.

Check out P.I.G.S. They’re in Frederick MD but they travel. They catered my wedding and the food and cost were amazing, they have packages that start at $8.99 pp and they include all the dishes, cutlery, etc. they also do dessert and can add on bartenders if needed.

I think you will find out that it will end up being much cheaper and easier to go with something all inclusive rather than figuring out logistics for picking up the food, renting chaffing dishes, serving ware, cups, plates, cuttlery, etc, and hiring wait staff. It seems less expensive at first but add all those costs and suddenly your not really saving any money.

I personally am doing the same that you are. We are buying food and having it delivered. However, we aren't serving it. Our venue has an area where we can have buffet style or preplate everything and set plates out there.

It isn't necessary to have servers if you do it that way.

That's actually probably a better idea but what are you all doing in terms of cleaning up and such?

Our venue is doing all clean up, but before we found that out, some of my family volunteered to help clean up while decorations were being taken down.

We are spending less than a fourth of what we would have on servers or a caterer this way, because like you, my FH and I both have huge families and lots of friends!

If you go this route make sure you have at least twice as much food as you think you need. you won't be able to control portion sizes the way having a server would so you will need to make sure you have way more than you need to not run out.

First of all this is super rude. I assume (like myself) she either has the means to bring her own meals and most venues have kitchens or kitchenettes that have refrigerators and or a way to keep food hot. I myself am looking for the same thing because for my wedding I want to do potluck style seeing as though everyone coming loves making their own foods. But even if she doesn’t want an entire chicken or something that’s cooked what’s to say she doesn’t want just cake and snack food. Why assume she wants an entire days worth the meals for her wedding. Food is food. Veggie platters, fruit platters, cookies, popcorn, wraps?? I don’t understand why everyone is being so mean to her when all she asked was help with BYO.
