Vendors changing prices!!

bridetobe2017, on December 17, 2016 at 7:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

We reserved 3 kegs for our reception with us having a guest list on the smaller side of 100 people, our vendor when we originally reserved them told us they would be $175 and we agreed, I also have an email from the vendor stating the price per keg was $175. A few weeks after this I received an invoice from the vendor stating the kegs were now $200 per keg and we were being invoiced for $200 per keg. Then today I had emailed the vendor inquiring about possibly having an open bar and asked if she could email me prices for the bar and the email states the kegs are now $250 per keg. I am getting kind of frustrated with the pricing of the kegs going up and us being expected to pay these amounts. I have a meeting scheduled with the vendor to go and speak about the prices and a few other questions we had but I wanted some input before I go to this meeting, they are not allowed to just up the prices after we have an email stating we would be charged $175 are they?!

They may be allowed to raise prices if you don't have a contract. If it were me I'd probably go with a different vendor all together. Not trustworthy to me.

This would honestly make me nervous. Do you not have some kind of a contract stating the prices? You have almost 8 months until your wedding and I would be worried those prices would continue to change.

I can't go with a different vendor, it's the bar inside of our ceremony and reception venue. It's so frustrating to me! It is my dream venue I love everything about it, except how it is run.

I am getting really nervous, to be honest when I saw the price changed again it almost made me want to cry. We just have a lot going on other then planning the wedding right now so added stress on top of the normal wedding planning stress is too much right now! We have a contract with them, so it should be a simple fix? We signed when it was listed $175 per keg.

Was it in any contract? Or was there anything saying you're locked in price was 175? Lots of vendors get estimates for price increases and then later get actual official increases. Also price difference could be due to a change in distributors

Then I would at least try to stand firm when you go to talk to them. Take the emails with you and tell them to honor those prices. If it's your venue though, and you've already signed a contract then I'd think they would have to honor it.

Okay I will do that, I really hope it all works out! I mean if anything I guess I'll just pay the $250 even though I really don't want to. But it worries me if I say I'll do that they will increase the prices even more over the next 8 months.

Read the contract carefully. If it states the kegs are $175 and there is no wording in there allowing them to change the price then you can fight it.

Our contract says they can change the prices before we pay the 50% deposit but once we pay it they can no longer change the prices (except for market value items). We contracted for a certain minimum though...not prices on individual things.

If there is anything in the contract stating something like "food and beverage prices are subject to change", you may be out of luck and will have to pay the increased price.

    I would be so frustrated!

Many venues we toured had fine print at the bottom of all their prices saying something along the lines of "prices subject to change," "prices may increase up to 3%", etc.

I would double check everything you have in writing from them.

I'm sorry that your dream venue is doing this :-( Good luck!
