Vendor meals

Laura, on July 15, 2019 at 6:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
I’m having bbq catered from the prominent local bbq place. So the only way to feed them (photog & assistant/husband) is to add to my count. But here’s my question: I’m only getting four hours of coverage, from 2pm to 6pm. Am I expected to feed them?

I don’t know if you’re required but I’d definitely feed my vendors. I’m providing breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’m sure I’m being over generous but I want them to be comfortable and happy. I’m sure it’s a hard thanks less job sometimes so I want to let them know they are appreciated.

    Check your contract.

I would feed them. 2-6 p.m. is an awkward time between lunch and dinner. Our caterer already includes vendor meals in our contract (lasagna - simple but makes a lot), and it doesn't count towards our head count. See if the bbq place has a 'vendor' meal option. idk how much you're spending on your per head count, but I know my vendors don't need the full three course, plated meal we're serving our guests.

I would feed them. You can even feed them a modified meal. Like something that's not the same as the guests for cheaper or something

I’m not a photographer but im a stylist and I sometimes spend up to 6-7 hours with a bridal party getting them ready. I always appreciate when brides offer to feed me but I usually turn it down as I’d rather get though all the girls in a timely manner. I personally plan ahead to bring a coffee so that I can make it through the day with ease. I don’t think your photographer is going to be expecting to take a break to eat with it only being 4 hours but I do think it’s really nice to offer.

I think it's nice to extend the offer in advance (and check to make sure it's not already listed in your contract with them). If they turn it down, no problem... at least you did your part.

We are feeding our vendors that are there the entire wedding or long (so 6 hours or longer). A few had it in their contract.

The only vendor I have is the owner of the venue and my photographers. I'll offer to let the venue manager hop in the buffet line. The photographers I'm iffy about because they are set to leave right before the caterer starts serving. I'd hate to make them wait longer around after I'm not paying them anymore to eat.
