Vendor had true review removed

Leigh, on May 24, 2019 at 2:29 PM Posted in Account Support 0 6
A vendor was able to successfully have a review of mine removed from weddingwire because we didn’t have a contract. The review was true. I don’t want to get into the details about the vendor, but after this experience I wanted to recommend others take reviews here with a grain of salt. I’m unimpressed with how their policies advantage vendors and I didn’t know that until I had this experience. I’d like to say the bright side is that you know good reviews are true, but when asked they were extremely vague about how they verify the accuracy of reviews other than those challenged by vendors.

I wondered about the policy regarding reviews here based on communications that I've had with highly reviewed vendors. Thanks for the head's up!!

This is pretty concerning. Can you tell us about your review? What sort of issues you had with the vendor? Did WW contact you and tell you the reason it was removed was because you didn't have a contract? I'm all about people being able to post open and honest reviews, but I also believe that a vendor should be able to provide a response or have a way of getting reviews removed if they are not accurate. I'm not saying in any way that yours was, just generally speaking that there are people who will leave false reviews to hurt competitors, legal or not. (We watch a lot of Judge Judy in our house lol!)

I’m not sure where they are on the website, but wedding wire sent me something that said only a contract or receipt were acceptable evidence. Messages with a vendor aren’t. What happened: we were supposed to use a venue for our engagement photos. They advertise the venue as being used for photo shoots. We really loved it so my photographer was very persistent in getting them to respond to her even though it was difficult. They waived the fee to use the location because they were so unresponsive. Hence no record of payment or contract. This was all resolved weeks ago. Yesterday when we were scheduled to take photos, just after I finished my make-up, the photographer called to tell me that the venue had double-booked itself and we wouldn’t be able to use it after all. She only found out when she called to confirm before she drove over. I’m totally fine with the fact that they went with a higher paying client, but they should have actually cancelled on us. My photographer spent most of yesterday afternoon scrambling to find an alternate location. I get that this was a relatively low stakes situation, but this was my dream wedding venue (didn’t pursue it due to the location) and I’m so relieved we didn’t use them.

If they have a Facebook page you can probably leave a real one there, or on a site like Yelp or Google to warn other brides.

Hi Leigh! WeddingWire is a platform for both couples and wedding professionals, and we take our review system very seriously.

We have to allow our vendors a way to dispute reviews that may be fraudulent, which is why you were asked for a signed contract or proof of payment as verification that you actually worked with this vendor. I'm sorry that was not available to you in this situation, but we have to draw a clear line and stick to it! You can read more about our review dispute policy here: Disputed Review FAQ.

If you do see other reviews (good or bad) that you believe to be suspicious or fake, you can always reach out to our team at support@weddingwire.com to bring them to our attention. We have several automatic safeguards in place to protect against phony reviews, in addition to the dispute process.

I totally understand there can be some suspicion when you see vendors with perfect 5 star ratings, but it does happen! Couples tend to leave reviews when they are either super happy or really upset with their experience, so we see a lot more one and five star ratings than three stars! I always recommend checking the vendor's reviews on multiple platforms (WeddingWire, The Knot, Yelp, Facebook) to ensure that you're seeing a consistent story from their clients.

I’m not sure why you think it was helpful to post this. I accurately described your policy and have already been over this with wedding wire staff.
