Vendor cancellation policies

Jenny, on February 10, 2016 at 12:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

A couple of my vendors (DJ and photographer) stipulate that if I cancel, they'll return my deposit only if they book another gig for the same date. Does anyone have experience with this policy? How would they prove if they haven't booked something else?

Our vendors didn't return our deposit even if they got another booking for the same day, but I've heard other brides here have found vendors with the same policy as yours. I'm not sure how you'd prove that though.

Pretty sure that's standard. I'm only hiring vendors I trust so I trust that if I had to cancel for some reason they would tell me if they rescheduled and not just keep my money

Usually, you just lose your deposits. I would say that's pretty nice stipulation for them to include in contract.

It's definitely nice--I guess we're just on the honor system! (I'm not planning on canceling; I'm only curious.)

My venue (all inclusive) does the same thing. Everything else we get back no matter what, but the deposit is only refundable if they book the same date and time. Smiley smile I don't know about proving it. Our venue is very popular though and I'm pretty confident that it would rebook. I guess for one, you could drive by. If no one was there, walk in for your deposit check Smiley smile

If a vendor has spent hours with you before you book, I don't think it's actually realistic to think that you'll get your initial retainer back if you cancel.

You should read your contract and make sure you're comfortable with their policy before you book.
