Velvet Tux?

I'm having an elopement and micro-reception (10 people including bride/groom). Ceremony will be outdoors in Alaska and reception will be at a fine dining restaurant. I'm wondering if you think a burgundy velvet tux is too much for this scenario? I like the idea of it matching the wedding palette but I'm unsure if its too over the top for an elopement? My dress will be pretty glam, the reception is glam, but its also really laid back because its an elopement and just close family (parents and siblings). Check out the pics of what I'm thinking and tell me what you think. The alternative would be a black suit.

I don't think it's too over the top at all. Your dress (which is amazing BTW) is very glam and there is no reason your guy can't be glam too!

It seems the tux will work in that situation. The style is good especially due to the restaurant you selected for your reception.

Contrary to what you may see people do, groom or not, a tux is appropriate wear for a formal, black tie, evening affair.

What does the groom want to wear? A tux is always appropriate for evening and special occasion, and I think burgundy is a handsome not ostentatious color. If your groom prefers velvet go for it. If in warmer temps, I would just gift a handkerchief for dabbing sweat (or tears). No matter your wedding size, it's still special to you so don't be afraid to go for your vision. I would also recommend informing your guests of the restaurant's dress code. They don't have to match your groom in formality, but I'm sure they'd want to respect the occasion as well. Best wishes.

That looks is incredible classic and awesome, and it's absolutely appropriate in your situation. (Though hopefully the groom will wear socks, it looks like the model may not be!)

People do anything and everything these days, but traditionally, for those who care about such things, it would be considered overdressed for the venue and formality of the event, in this case an outdoor wedding in Alaska followed by a restaurant reception. Personally I’d go with a dark suit. That can be just as elegant looking with the right accessories.
