Velvet Bridesmaid Dresses?

Claire, on June 18, 2020 at 11:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I’ve recently fallen in love with the idea of velvet dresses for my bridesmaids. But as much as I love the look, I want my girls to be comfortable dancing. My fear is that they’ll be to warm to wear. I have a November wedding, but it’s indoors and we live in the south so November doesn’t really mean much. Any former bridesmaids have any thoughts? Yay or Nay? Did you like them? Did you have any problems with them?

The last time I wore velvet, I sweated thee entire time. I was hot and sticky all night. It wasn’t a wedding but same atmosphere. The fabric really is beautiful but someone needs to make breathable velvet.

I agree. I like the look too, but I’d go for a breathable fabric for comfort.

It's pretty but not comfortable except in very cold weather.

I think they may get pretty hot, theyll be dancing and running around helping you. I think something more flowy is always best for bridesmaids

Go for it. Most places have spaghetti strapped dresses. Wear a cute shawl in case its cooler. Then they could wear a low heel or a cute sandle depending on how long the dresses are.

I had my reception in the south in November and my girls wore chiffon dresses. It was 40 outside and the reception was inside. With the food and drinking and dancing they were sweating so I can’t imagine how hot they would have been in velvet.

Well as a Southern belle myself who's been in a ton of weddings, I've always gone with the brides choice.

And let's face it, we all have to sacrifice for beauty sometimes! Lol🤭
I think velvet will be stunning and they will be fine, for the few hours of the wedding and reception.
Your inside temperature will be regulated with either AC or heat, it will be fine in my opinion, go for the velvet❤

I think they look beautiful. Maybe you could choose a shorter dress or a long dress with a leg slit so they can get some air flow.

I live in MN and the last time I wore velvet it was December I was warm but once I was in the bar and among bodies and dancing I was a swamp, then going back out into the cold I was freezing. Its a beautiful material and photographs lovely, its just not that great if you'll be doing heavy activities like dancing.
