veils - for a beach wedding

Maggie, on November 22, 2012 at 1:17 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Looking for help,

we are having a beach wedding and i have as strapless lace gown that has a long train, vintage and beach. i bought a head band with a large flower on it, but i know my other half is expecting some sort of veil. originally i thought i would have a bird cage veil but now i am thinking about a long veil..... help. when you think of a beach wedding, what do you think, head piece, no head piece, short veil, long veil? I don't know what to do.

I think short veil, but not birdcage--birdcage makes me think more Old Hollywood. Something airy and flow-ey, like this example:

Personally I love the sheer long veils that to me epitomize the airy, breezy feel of the beach. Not too into the birdcage as I also picture that to be more Old Hollywood/show biz

I am having my wedding on the beach also and I fell in LOVE with a cathedral length veil, so that's what I'm going with. I don't know if it's the best choice on the beach but I love it so I'm wearing it!

Just make sure the officiant positions you so you are facing into the breeze -- otherwise, you'll be fighting with your veil throughout the ceremony. That may mean that you end up standing where the groom traditionally stands.

If you have bridesmaids, they will either wrangle the veil for you or they will be fighting it blowing into their faces.

I totally agree with Nancy. I had planned on taking a few shots on the beach ( ie. not even a whole ceremony), and it was so windy that day that I got about 4 shots before cocktail and my veil was ALL OVER the place. The best was when sand was being blown into my eyes. It depends on the day. I would opt for a short veil, mine ended around my lower back.

Nancy, beach wedding specialist, nailed it. Most of my beach girls have done birdcages or no veil at all, but if it's long, you need to have it blow behind you or it'll make you nuts.

Personally, I wouldn't do a veil with a beach wedding. I'd style my hair with soft beach waves and a fancy comb. But it's also a vintage wedding so maybe a short lace edged veil that will compliment your gown with a seashell comb. Use maybe an antique lace and make your own single layer if you can. Smiley smile I agree with Nancy. If you go with veils, make sure you're facing into the wind. If it's a short veil, it won't be a big pain to wrangle.
