Veil Weights? Is this is a must?

mindy, on April 17, 2016 at 10:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 21

Deciding if i need to purchase veil weights or not. I will be having an outdoor wedding ceremony, and my veil is fingertip length, with just one layer. Also, this will be in May in Florida... so hot! lol and not sure how windy...

I've never heard of veil weights. Maybe it's just me, but I would say being that I've never heard of them, then it's not necessary.

I don't find them necessary, I'm not using one.

I agree, I think you're fine without them!

I went to a wedding outside where the bride had to hold her veil through the entire ceremony. I mean, up to you but after watching that ceremony I decided they were a must for me.

I had never even heard of them until AFTER my wedding lol.

My wedding day was quite windy actually... and I was fine without. There is ONE picture where my veil is kind of blowing sideways but it doesnt even look that bad Smiley winking If you dont want the extra expense, I wouldnt bother.

I don't think you will need them in FL unless you're by the water. However, you can purchase some inexpensive ones and save in the box in case you need them. If you do, you'll have them. If you don't, you can resell or return !

I don't think you'll need them in FL. If my veil didn't have heavy beaded lace on it I would consider them. But living where the wind index is a huge factor is a lot different.

Honestly, you're going to have to secure your veil to your head with or without veil weights, just to keep it from falling off. Your hairdresser should be able to do it in such a way as also to prevent it from blowing off. So I'm not sure how the veil weights would really help.

I used lots of Bobby pins for my outdoor wedding and didn't have any issues.

If I haven't heard of them, you don't need them.

I've heard of them and don't find it necessary. You could go with @Nessa's suggestion if you're really worried. They came up along with 'solemates' when I was looking for potential issues and solutions for an outdoor wedding. I personally don't think these items are needed.

I think it depends on the location f the ceremony will you be outside on the lake or beach were the wind will blow a little more than normal if yes then I would look into them if no then why bother

I didn't have my veil on for long enough to really need them.

I don't think you will need them. And besides, sometimes when the win blows you get an awesome picture of your veil flowing behind you.

I'm having a outdoor wedding and not going to so I will have some (hopefully) beautiful pictures of my hair and veil flowing behind me. If you are really worried ask your photographer if he/she thinks it's good idea since the big issue would be pictures.

I've never heard of this! It's not a bad idea though if it's not expensive.

I actually think it would look very pretty if your veil was fluttering in the breeze a bit.

I officiate a LOT of beach weddings and it is almost always breezy and sometimes downright windy.

A veil flapping in the breeze is a nuisance -- especially to your MOH who will be juggling your bouquet, her bouquet, and trying to not get slapped in the face by your veil. I have sometimes grabbed a hold, too, to keep the groom from getting it in the face.

After the ceremony, pics of the veil floating in the breeze look nice. If yours are magnetic, you can put them on just before the ceremony (if needed) and take them off after the ceremony.

I am definitely getting them! The last thing I want to be thinking about while saying my vows is peeling a flapping veil off my face.
