Veil that covers top of head but not face

Anna, on June 17, 2018 at 5:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I am looking for a veil that would cover the top of my head but not my face. I have found that most veils available don't cover the top of the head (often don't cover much of anything) or if they do cover the top of the head they also cover the face. Selection is further limited because I am looking for an ivory and not white veil. I believe this style is called mantilla style. I want to a few bridal stores and at one they actually told me I should consider looking online, maybe etsy.

I have checked out etsy and some other online mantilla stores, and they have beautiful veils, including ivory ones, but most of them are all over lace. I have lace on my dress and would prefer something simpler, more along the lines of a piece of tulle with a little bit of an edging. Does anyone have suggestions? I didn't realize it would be this complicated, so I only have six weeks until I get married and might just get one of the all over lace mantillas at this point.

Hey Anna! Are you looking for something like this? If so, check out BlancaVeils on Etsy. I LOVE mantilla veils and really wanted one (until I bought a dress that wouldn’t work with it 😭).

Look for a drop veil. They can be positioned anywhere. You might have to have a comb moved but any seamstress could do it if your not comfortable. Others come without a comb and are held in place with pins. Honestly a seamstress could whopone up pretty easily. Catherine Middleton wore a drop veil, it was over her face but it could have been positioned just over her head.

They are expensive to buy but easy to make. I made mine a fingertip length for about 10 bucks.

Hi Anna! 40 days until your wedding day! Smiley heart

Etsy and DIYing a mantilla veil are both great ideas for ordering/making a custom veil that would match your vision.

I did a little research and saw that David's Bridal sells an ivory mantilla-style veil. It is simple, has lace details on the edges, and covers the top of your head but not your face. I am not sure if you have a length preference but it seems that they are sometimes listed as "cathedral veils." You can take a look at what I saw below at athttp://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_accessories_mantilla-veils_scalloped-lace-edge-cathedral-veil-vw37v01.

    I hope this helps!

I have what's called a Juliet cap veil, so maybe expanding your search to include those might turn up one you like. I almost got this one (it comes in ivory) but went with one from Blanca Veils that came with a headpiece. I know Blanca lets you order tulle samples to make sure the color you choose matches your dress and also will add lace edging to a veil.

I am looking for something like that. I actually looked at BlancaVeils but they're a bit more expensive that I would like.

This was one thing I had looked at, but I wasn't sure how effective it would be. This makes me feel better that it could work.

I live in California... So I went up to the Los Angeles garment district. Bought 2 yards English netting (enough to experiment shapes with) and 5 yards of lace trim that for the most part matched my dress.. plus ordered a comb and clear nylon thread on Amazon with prime shipping.
I had a ton left over and only took me about 3 days to get the shape I wanted and sew it together.

I was also going to suggest a Juliet veil. The Mantilla traditionally are lace or heavily edged in lace but the Juliet just has the tighter cap part to hold it on and can be very simple if that is what you want. If you decide to go with a drop veil make sure it does have a comb and that it isnt cut too circular so it wont look funny pushed back on your head, they traditionally use the weight of the edges to hold themselves on but to do so effectively they have to go completely over your face.
