Veil questions

Rebecca, on July 2, 2017 at 6:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I keep debating getting a veil. I actually liked the cathedral length one I tried on with my dress but it looks so different when they drape it over your shoulders vs how it would end up, just hanging in the back. Also, is there much point to doing anything fancy with your hair, won't a veil just hide it?

I am considering just wearing one for part of the time.

Thanks

I like the idea of my dad lifting it off my face when we get to the end of the aisle and kissing my cheek.

I want to wear mine the whole ceremony until the FH is supposed to kiss me. I think it's cooler that he sees what he's going to get when I become his bride. Your choice. But you still have to do your hair if you intend to take it off for the reception. Can't skip that.

Get the veil!! I wore a cathedral angel cut veil (blusher forward to walk down the aisle, then my parents flipped it back) and I loved it! Mine stayed around my shoulders pretty well, even when I moved around. If that's the look you want, you need one with a structured horsehair edge. You could definitely still see my hair, and it didn't mess it up too much. I just wore a headband during the reception, which covered up the little bit of frizz that happened where the veil comb got stuck.

It's just for the ceremony so I love the idea of wearing a veil, it completes the bridal look.

My cathedral length veil draped fine even with outdoor wedding. Satin edging. Tell you hair stylist what you want as far as veil. Mine structured my updo, so it could support the veil and I could easily place and pull out the comb that held the veil without ruining the updo.

Thanks for all the feedback. @MrsSki I love how yours looked! Thanks for the advice about the structured edge. I'm only just looking in to all of this so any advice is helpful.

Nothing against veils, they're beautiful just not my style. A couple of my friends removed theirs for the reception at their weddings because it got tugged on when guests hugged them.

I did not think I would want to wear a veil and then fell in love with the idea when I finally tried them on with my dress. I am also going to wear a cathedral veil and the seamstress is going to add small "tacks" (tiny stitches/threads) in a couple places to keep it from falling behind my shoulders as I walk down the aisle. I am not going to wear it over my face at any point and then will take it off for the reception. They don't really hide anything so you would still want to have your hair done even if you did wear it all night.

ETA: there is a similar thread started today/yesterday by Poster Erin B. titled "no veil?" This may be a helpful thread to refer to for more info.

I have a fingertip length two tier veil. I'm wearing the blusher over my face as I walk down the aisle with my father, and at the end of the aisle he will lift it off my face right before I take FHs hand and stand at the alter with him. I'm so happy with my choice of veil and it's so important to me with regard to its role in the beginning of my ceremony.

@sovatastic I didn't even think about that. I did try one on and noticed it caught on my dress a few times.

@AdventuresofRuth I didn't think I wanted one either until they put one on me. Just not completely sure. I might make a fancy hair clip instead (I do metalsmithing work).

I like when they just hang at the back, not draped over the shoulders. I didn't think I wanted one at first, but I'm glad I bought one. I'm just wearing it for the ceremony, and taking it off right after.

ETA: not really a fan of a blusher either.
