Veil or no veil

Tara, on December 6, 2019 at 6:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
I never imagined I would be a veil girl, but I’m afraid ill regret not wearing one. When I bought my dress they put a finger tip length lace veil on me and I hated it. I’m wondering what type of veil I should try Instead that will not over power my dress? I included photos of my dress and possible hair style.

I think a sheer cathedral length or mid length would look nice.

    That's a pretty dress!

I was very conflicted with this as well, but I decided to not wear a veil. We're having our wedding in Hawaii so I wanted to stay a bit more casual. Also, I have a pretty bridal head piece that I don't want covered up by the veil. I think it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with. Where will your ceremony be? Do you think you'll need to wear one there?

I think a pretty sheer veil will work for you! If that's David's Bridal, then they may not have picked the best veil either - I bought one from them, then took it home and realized that the sequins were falling off. It looks terrible. My suggestion would be to see about some fingertip veils from Amazon or Etsy. You might even be able to do a chapel or floor length to give yourself a little extra drama to your train too.

The ceremony is outdoors at a park with gazebo so it’s not needed.

Yes it was David’s bridal! I asked her if she had others I could try and she said no 😐 so I just left unsure

Yeah, I think if it's outdoors at a park you don't need a veil. You could have a head piece with your hairstyle too! That would look cute.

If you hate a veil I wouldn’t wear one.. But if you want to wear one, their are different ones or you can even wear a (jewelry) headpiece instead of a veil

I would look at some of the cheaper ones on Amazon if you're still thinking about it. Or maybe a birdcage? I think you should at least try on a few more because the David's Bridal veil selection was not that great.

I read another forum a few weeks ago that a photographer said most brides regret not bringing a veil. I have thought of this too...and honestly if I have enough after the holidays I might buy a $20 veil from amazon just to have it in case. I am leaning towards not having one, but I can see myself regretting it as well...I guess get one just in case!

That’s very pretty and fitting for your wedding style! I might buy a $5 one on amazon just to test it before I buy

I don't like the veils at David's Bridal. I'd do a sassy birdcage or a raw edge, single layer veil

I suggest doing a Google search of different types of veils and seeing how they look and see if one Sparks your fancy. I am assuming you are having a reception so what do you think about just wearing the veil for the ceremony and then taking it off for the reception? It sounds to me like you would regret maybe not having a veil but I don't think that you would regret having one. Even if you don't necessarily love the veil I don't really see you saying that you would regret wearing one even if you're not a veil person. There are certain veils that you can wear even showing off your hair piece.

Maybe try a veil made from a different kind of fabric? When I was trying, I really liked the ones made from English met, they drape down without much fullness, rather than the regular tulle veils, which can be a little poufy.

What was it about the veil you tried that you didn’t like?

It seemed too noticeable in the front and had a heavy lace trim. I like how veils looks from the back, but not when they’re over the shoulder or in front. Every time I moved it came around too.. maybe it was just too big for my taste.

Yeah! That’s a good idea! I might do that too. I can use it for a boudoir shoot Im doing after the holidays so I might buy the $20 one I told you about for it. All of this planning is super exciting!

Yes it is! I thought about doing a boudoir shoot but I’ll have to find yet another photographer. My wedding photographer does not do those typically

I am wearing this headpiece with a veil for the ceremony/photos and then just the headpiece for the reception. I agree with PP's on wearing either a headpiece or a super simple sheer veil in either fingertip or chapel length and it would be nice for the ceremony/photo's.

I definitely think you should do the veil if you worry about regretting it later. Something like this would be perfect for your dress and desired hairstyle! I got mine from amazon too and the quality was not bad at all for the price!

Yes, I tried one with a thick lace trim too and hated it. It was just too much going on. I bet you’d be much happier with a simple one tier style. And if you don’t love that, going without is fine too.
