Veil or no veil?

Jessica, on November 20, 2019 at 8:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
I’m having a hard time deciding if I should wear a veil or not. I originally didn’t want to wear one, but my grandma really wants me to. Some of my bridesmaids say it will cover the detail on the back of my dress therefore not to wear one. The other half day I should. People keep telling me I will regret not wearing one, but I just never thought of myself wearing one. I’m on the fence about it. Did you regret not wearing one? Glad you wore one? Wished you would’ve worn one?

I’m not married yet but I’m wearing one. Only for the ceremony and I’m taking it off for the reception. I was in the same situation as you, I did not want a veil covering up the dress. But I found one that was super super sheer so it looks great.

Yeah I’m so on the fence. Like I don’t want to and then I see pictures and it looks really nice when they do wear one. I guess I’m also stuck on the price. I can’t even think about spend $200 on a veil

I got 200 dollar of a veil at my bridal store because I bought my dress there the first consultation. It was a little perk so it was hard to give up lol I’m sure you could find reasonable priced one on Etsy or amazon.

Think about it- it’s the only time in your life you’ll ever get to wear one! I got a single tier veil, it’s very sheer so that it won’t cover up any detailing on my dress!

This is my 2nd marriage. I wore one for my first marriage. I like you, had not envisioned myself in a veil, but there are so many options. You can make sure to tell your photographer that you want a lot of pics without the veil, as well, to highlight the back of your dress. Overall, I think veil, says bride. I suggest veil. Good luck with your decision

I was so opposed to the idea of a veil, I refused to even consider options. During my dress fitting my sister pleaded with me to at least try one on. I proceeded to grandstand for at least 5 minutes about the archaic and anti feminist history of this fashion accessory. When she was finally able to shut me up, she placed the veil on my head and I knew I’d messed up. Of course I looked like a bride in my white dress but the veil really tied everything together. I only wore it for the ceremony but I was so grateful I gave it a shot.

    I didn't wear one. I. Didn't regret it. I had a detailed hairband instead

A veil makes me feel more bridal, so that's why I decided to wear one! If you're more comfortable without one, it's totally fine to ditch the veil. However, I think your wedding might be the only time you'll be able to wear a veil Smiley smile

I was NOT going to wear one. But when my dress came in I tried on a long sheer veil and finally had that “bridal moment.” My dress had back details too but I loved my veil and am sure glad I wore for photos & the ceremony.

First I would say not to let other pressure you into a decision you don't like. But since you say you are on the fence, i think you should explore the options. There are so many styles. Not all veils are long. Look into the varying lengths and styles. Also you definitely don't have to spend $200 on one. Check out Etsy for a range of prices and styles.

I’m planning to wear mine only for the ceremony and then remove it for the reception. If you choose a veil that’s simple/less embellished, it shouldn’t take away from the look of the dress. Also try out different lengths and see which you like best based on your dress! I originally thought short would be better for me, but turns out the super long ones work better with the dress I chose!

Maybe instead of a veil you could do a pretty comb, hair vine, or even a tiara

It really depends on the dress and your personal style and vision for your wedding day look. My first dress, I don't think Id wear a veil with, but I also ended up changing my mind on that dress. My new dress im in love with is a very sparkly, beaded, ornate gown and a single layer, cathedral length, barely-there sheer, drop veil complimented it so well in all of its simplicity that I can't imagine wearing the dress without it.

Well first I just want to say that from your post, it really sounds like the only reason you're on the fence is because other people are telling you to wear one, not because YOU want to wear one. If you know you don't want to wear a veil, ignore all the opposing opinions. You won't be any less of a bride without one!

I'm wearing a veil, but I've always planned on wearing one. I will say that I've read about brides who have opted not to wear a veil and some of them do regret it. I haven't heard of any brides regretting wearing a veil, but there are also brides who don't regret not wearing one. If I were you, if you're even slightly considering wearing one (because YOU want to, not because of others!) then I would get a veil. At least try some on if you're really undecided, that might help make your decision easier Smiley smile

I don’t plan on wearing a veil. I feel beautiful in my dress and personally think I/my dress looks better without a veil. I tried a bunch of them on and I wasn’t persuaded. I may do a hair comb instead.

My dress also has a lot of detail on the back. I will be wearing a single tier veil for the ceremony only. I found one for $30 on amazon because I didn't feel it was worth the hundreds of dollars the bridal stores charge for them just to wear it for such a short time. You can also choose a shorter veil to cover much less of the dress.

I will be wearing one and I love it! It makes me feel more bridal. I'm wearing a one tiered veil with no blusher. The length goes to about mid back so it doesn't cover up the entire back of the dress. I'm also only wearing mine for the ceremony. I'm not about to try dancing in a veil. I got a head piece that matches the beading in my dress. My veil also has similar beading to the dress around the edge. That way any detailing in the dress that is covered by the veil will be brought out in the veil and head piece.

I am wearing one, but it will be very sheer. You absolutely can still see the back of the dress!
