Veil bustle?

Chelsea N., on August 30, 2017 at 12:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 19

I recently purchased a veil and it's a different style than I planned on going with, I originally wanted finger tip length as I don't want to worry about my veil dragging and getting ruined. The veil I have is chapel length so it will hit the ground--I only plan on wearing it for the ceremony, but my mom really wants me to keep it on for a little long. Our consultant suggested bustling the veil. I've never heard of a bustled veil and would love any advice you all have for the cost to have it done, and did you like how it looked? I would love to see some pics too!! Smiley smile

I dont have any pictures but I think it would be cheaper to look on Amazon or etsy and just purchase a shorter one for the reception

I've never heard of that either and it sounds like it would look weird. Why your mom wants you to wear a veil after the ceremony I don't know, but if that's the case maybe just get a shorter one for that time. Or just take it off after the ceremony like YOU want to .

I have a feeling it would look a little odd as well. I mean it is a beautiful veil and I hate to have it on for such a short time, but it might just be one more unnecessary expense. :/

Can we see what the veil looks like? I can't picture a bustled veil, but you'll get to wear it for your ceremony and pictures so you'll get lots of use out of it. You can even keep it on for your entrance into the reception if you want, though I'd probably try to take it off before your first dance.

Do what you want, not what your mom wants. Bustled veil = weird as hell.

This is a picture of the veil from the website (forgot to take a pic trying it on!)

It actually isn't that weird. What they do is they slide your veil to the end of your train and make it part of the bustle when you do the dress. My friend had one for her wedding because she kept her veil on the whole night.

Personally, I don't like it because it means attaching something to the veil which potentially can leave holes in it and ruin it.

It's hard to see from the picture but there's crystal beading throughout.

Gorgeous! That looks like it barely hits the floor, is that how long yours is? I wouldn't think that would cause any problems if you wore it at the beginning of your reception and took it off just before the dancing.

@Rebecca M. Thank you for explaining what it is! Yeah for me i would be worried with the weight from the crystal it might tear the veil! Just curious--was it difficult to bustle?

@WWJo thank you!! I'm not as tall as the model (5'2) so it does it the floor for me. Once I have heels on probably not as bad but it will still hit the floor a bit. I'm thinking just taking pics and having it in for ceremony so I wear it long enough to feel like i got my money's worth lol

I wouldn't bustle a veil.. leave it on for pics, ceremony and even reception if you want but then take it off

@Chelsea - it wasn't but we did a trial run the morning of to make sure all the hooks and everything worked. What they did is put a few white hooks on the back of her dress and sewed little loops on the veil. So when we bustled the dress, I just attached the hooks to the loops.

The seamstress did all of it for my friend. I would suggest because there is heavy beading have them sew a real eye (the loop part that the hook goes into) behind a few of the embellishments that way it all hides and it should match the bustling on your dress. Smiley smile

There are some tutorials on YouTube that give a slightly different approach than @Rebecca's friend had done:

Just take it off. I tried to keep mine on after the ceremony, but literally every hug I gave resulted in someones arm pulling on the veil (and therefore my head).

Don't bustle the veil! You will regret it.

I wouldn't bustle it, just take it off when it starts to get annoying!

Thanks everyone! Definitely just going to take it off and enjoy the rest of the night without my veil! Smiley smile
