Veil alteration - what do I do?

KristnH, on April 1, 2013 at 7:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I want to wear my mom's veil - it's a mantilla style veil with lace that goes well with my dress. BUT - it has this wire head cap thing that I hate. I'm pretty sure it's possible to just detach the lace from the head cap & attach it to a comb, but I'm afraid to try it myself & kill the veil.

Any ideas? If you're in the San Diego area, and seamstress recommendations?

This is the best photo I have of the veil at the moment...

This is a lot easier to do than it looks, but since it is of sentimental value to you it might be easier to send it to the seamstress. I am in the process of making my own veil and to make the top I will either cut it to the right shape and glue it on a comb or sew it on the comb. Try youtube if you are thinking about doing it. you could even use the leftover hat part to wrap around your bouqet, or have the seamstress make a garter belt out of it! :-)

I am in SD! Where did you get your dress? They usually outsource the alterations so you may be able to ask them who they use.

I got my dress at AA and they have a lady that owns her own shop but she works with them once a week for alterations. They won't do alterations on stuff that isn't theirs at the shop but I am sure if you went direct with it they could help with the veil.

I'm also using the lace sleeves from my grandma's wedding dress to wrap around my bouquet. The dress was horrible, but the sleeves are pretty Smiley smile I suppose I could youtube it and try to alter the veil myself... I just scares me! I'll try those links though, thanks ladies!

@Soon to be Mrs. S I got my dress at David's Bridal, I will definitely give them a call and ask. Maybe I should ask my FB friends for a tailor seamstress... I've got a dress that needs to be taken in too ;p

Look at your local cleaners for alterations.
