Vegetarian Reception Meals

Stephanie, on April 6, 2017 at 3:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

We are planning on having a buffet for our reception, and want to have good vegetarian options (in addition to at least one meat option). We haven't finalized our caterer yet, but none of the ones I've looked at really have much. One caterer has stuffed mushrooms as the only vegetarian entree, and the other is just various pastas. Did anyone have vegetarian meal options that were actually satisfying, filling, and tasted good?

Hi there! I'm a vegetarian and at our wedding we had an Italian buffet style dinner, but the sausage and meatballs were separate from the pasta and sauces. This solution worked!

We are having pasta as one of our vegetarian entrees and it was my favorite things at the tasting!

My opinion as a vegetarian, I love a good pasta dish. However, I have heard and read that some vegetarians/vegans get somewhat... insulted (for lack of a better word) when "their dish" is pasta. As in the thought that vegetarians *only* eat pasta. But, when it comes down to it, I think that (generally) a vegetarian will be delighted to have a vegetarian dish. (I've been to weddings where I had to load up on "sides" because there was no non-meat main....)

I'm vegetarian! My favorite meals are usually ones like a good eggplant parmigiana. I hate mushrooms and mushrooms are usually a staple for wedding vegetarian meals (when one is available). I agree with previous poster that I love a good pasta dish. Honestly as long as I have actual food at a wedding it's truly a blessing - I've left many a reception to go to a nearby restaurant for a veggie option, or had a "dinner" of sides.

ETA: If you are doing appetizers of any kind please make sure there are a couple of veggie options - that is always a bummer when you are starving at a cocktail hour and everyone is eating delicious apps that you can't touch!

We're doing at least one vegetarian pasta dish. All the vegetarians we know like pasta, and it's a nice filling meal. Nothing like being hungry and the only option is sauteed asparagus and a couple mushrooms.

Our venue served grilled squash and zucchini with tomatoes over rice pilaf.

I actually told a bunch of our friends to pick the vegetarian option, it was one of the best dishes at our tasting!!

Our veggie option was a sun-dried tomato risotto cake topped with spinach, crispy fried leeks, and portobello chips

We have a salad, mac and cheese bar, cheese station, breads, and eggplant parmigiana.

ETA: oh! And one of our apps is a breaded risotto ball stuffed with goat cheese, and another is a caprese skewer. I just realized we have a lot of options!

I initially thought pasta was a lame option for vegetarians but the mushroom ravioli was one of the tastiest dishes at our first tasting! It was totally satisfying. I'd go with pasta. It's filling, and more on the indulgent side, which I think is better for a wedding.

Vegetarian here. I don't get why people think vegetarians are upset about pasta. It's filling and tasty, so I'm okay with it. A super heavy meal CAN be too filling and make you tired, so at my wedding, instead of pasta, the veggie option was actually a vegetarian stir fry. That wasn't part of my "theme", but it was my favorite meal at the tasting. There were veggies and rice and some ginger sauce. It was really popular with vegetarians AND meat eaters. We also offered chicken piccatta and baked stuffed sole. Everyone had the same salad and bread, plus an assortment of meat and non-meat appetizers during cocktail hour.

Add me to the list of vegetarians who hates mushrooms. If that's the option, I'll appreciate you considering the vegetarians, but stick to just eating the sides. I MIGHT get self conscious about not touching the entry, and cut it into a few pieces just to make it look like I had a portion of the food. Smiley winking
