Vegetarian or Non Vegetarian Meal Option

Jess, on June 28, 2017 at 1:19 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Hi! I am creating my own wedding invitation, and am in need of help. We are serving gourmet hamburgers at our wedding. However, I know there are less than a handful of guests who are vegetarian. That being said, we have a black bean burger option for vegetarians. Should I give a choice to all of my guests; Vegetarian or Non Vegetarian. Or should I add a line that says, "Please indicate any diet restrictions". Or should I not give any choice and just give the guests who I know are vegetarians the vegetarian option?

Thanks!

I like the idea of people being able to share other dietary concerns beyond veg or not. With so many more people being gluten and dairy free or having allergies now, an open-ended question could be helpful. (Or a hassle!)

Black bean burgers are so yummy... Smiley smile great choice. I'd say more options (allowing people to indicate their dietary needs) if it's available because a lot of people are GF and a ton of other allergies.

I would definitely have a space for people to put their dietary restrictions on there.

Hopefully the vegetarian burgers aren't going to be made on the same grille as the meat hamburgers?

I like a space for dietary restrictions in general because it can include allergies, etc.

I like the space for dietary restrictions. Gourmet burgers sound sooo yummy but I'm allergic to red meat so I for sure would like a different option-black bean burgers sound good!

I think you should do both. Add the vegetarian option and the dietary restrictions line. Even though I am not a vegetarian, sometimes I do pick that option if I am not in the mood for meat.

I am not vegetarian but don't eat beef, so I would appreciate knowing in advance. We listed out the meal options, including veg, and I am surprised by how many people chose the vegetarian option. Maybe "angus burger" (or whatever fancy burgers go by), "black bean quinoa burger", and a blank line for "other dietary restrictions". Sounds like a really fun and tasty menu!

If I could go back I would ask for dietary restrictions on the rsvp! But I can't so... woe is me.

I would put the options on there if you can- as others have said, some people don't eat red meat even if they aren't vegetarian

I'd list both meal choices and also include a line asking for guests to list dietary restrictions. Your caterer may need to prepare alternative offerings for guests with allergies and intolerances so they'll need to know all that info up front.

I'm not a vegetarian but I just like black bean burgers more than beef ones, so I'd like the option to choose that.

(I almost always choose the vegetarian option if there is one since while I am an omnivore I tend to like non-meat options better.)

We put the veggie option on there, and actually people who aren't veggie got it. I don't blame them it's a yummy eggplant rollatini. That said, anyone with severe allergies or aversions put * and a note on the back. If they've got allergies, they know to make note of it, so if it's a space or line charge on your RSVP, I wouldn't worry about putting that.

I think you should give everyone the option. I would not put a line for dietary restrictions. You will end up with a shit ton of preferences instead of legit allergies. People that have legit allergies / restrictions will either let you know or will make alternate arrangements.

We're serving steak frites, but we're planning to put on the menu at the reception "Vegetarian option available by request" - our venue wouldn't let us select the food until a couple months out, so we had to print the invitations before we knew what the menu was.
