Vegas weddings-cocktail welcome party

Kathleen, on December 19, 2018 at 8:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
I’m getting married in Las Vegas and I want to have a “cocktail welcome party” the night before the wedding since my rehearsal will be earlier in the day but I’m having the hardest time finding places that are just for cocktail gatherings without the “club life” look. For anyone that has done this in Vegas, help me!

I would look at restaurants that have a private room or event space. How many guests are you having? We had over 100 people for our welcome party with passed hors d'oeuvres and an open bar and just used the private space of our favorite restaurant.

That’s what I was planning on. My parents and my fiancé’s parents have said they want the guests though to pay for themselves, is that bad to tell the guests that? We arent having more than 70 people.

If you invite people to a party -- welcome or whatever -- they should be hosted (that is, not expected to pay for themselves). If you're not going to actually host/pay, at best you could informally let people know you'll be at a particular bar/restaurant, if they want to stop by and join you. But, if no one is hosting a "welcome cocktail party," don't invite people to one. (There's no need to have a welcome party, so if you can't afford to host one, don't have it.)

I never said they couldn’t afford it.

And it is going to be a “this is where the bride and groom will be” I was just wondering what places would be good. Have you had your wedding in Vegas? Do you know good places?

I wouldn’t host a welcome party and have people pay. If you aren’t going to host then I would tell people by word of mouth “hey we will be at this bar for a couple hours if you want to stop by for a drink.” But you won’t be able to rent anything out. Pick a bar that you like or is in a convenient location and sit down at a couple barstools or tables and let people swing by at their convenience.

Yes this is bad and wouldn't be considered a welcome party. I agree with Kelly that you should just pick a place, anywhere since you're not hosting, and let people know by word of mouth that they can swing by at their convenience.

Yeah that’s what I was planning on doing, I just needed places to look that we’re big enough for people to come. My fiancé suggested The Circle Bar in The Hard Rock Hotel. It’s open room like and big.
