Vegas elopement with our kids?

Crystal, on February 16, 2016 at 9:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

So my fiance and I have been together for 3 years, engaged for 1 year, and we both have 7 year old daughters from previous relationships that are very close. Everything we do revolves around them (and rightfully so). They are very excited for us to get married and to be in the wedding. Only recently did we decide that we did not want to do a big wedding. A lot of my family has passed away, and his is not very involved and we just can't stomach to spend the money. I had been searching for the perfect elopement or small ceremony and it hit me.. Las Vegas. The Neon Boneyard is the perfect intimate, whimsical, yet quirky and fun back drop and I think it fits us perfectly! But here's the hitch.. Vegas with the girls? We have friends that live in Vegas and I would love to have some time for ourselves to really let loose and get the whole Vegas experience, free of responsibility. But I can't imagine not including the girls. They would be crushed. Cont. PLEASE SEE COMMENTS!

SO! I was thinking, what if we did a small family ceremony here at home to include the girls and then rush off to Vegas? I really really want to experience the Neon boneyard and get pictures of me I'm my dress, him in vest & bowtie.. But am I losing some of the "specialness" by separating the two and only doing that for pictures? I mean I can imagine myself parading all over Vegas in my wedding dress just because it's my day, but enduring the plane? Not so sure.. It seems like the best solution so we don't miss out on our much needed adult break & fun but is almost tacky at that point? I don't see re-doing the ceremony but just enjoying the time and pictures? What are your thoughts? Help!

Hire a friend or bring a relative along to babysit for 2 nights after the wedding.

I thought about the babysitter option because we do have friends that live there but even the "babysitter at night" closes alot of options during the day.. Not that there aren't things they could do with us but I would love to do anything or nothing at all if we want. Not have to wake up.. Or lay around naked.. Or go gamble and swim all day.. Sending them back home with a relative would be nerve racking because we live in Virginia.. My babies would be traveling across the country without us :-/

You bring a friend or relative to the hotel with you. One room for the two of you and another one for the girls and the sitter. You guys can have meals and day activities together and then send them to their room while you have alone time.

I like Leslie's idea. You can have your friends that live in the area take your girls during the day and/or watch them at night while you and your FH enjoy your honeymoon. Las Vegas is totally doable for you, FH and your girls.
