Vegan meal, no starter or dessert

Felicia, on July 28, 2021 at 4:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
Hello!

Looking for some insight on my vegan meal options. Two of my very best friends are vegan and do not stray from their lifestyle. Everybody at my reception gets a plated starter, plated dinner, and plated dessert. The hotel just told me that they do not offer a vegan starter and a vegan dessert. Just a vegan entree.
Did anybody else have this issue? I feel like it is so rude for the two vegans to sit there with no food while everybody else gets served. How do I bypass this? Have their entree served while everyone has their starter? They still won’t have a dessert.

Is it possible for you to accommodate those 2 and purchase a separate vegan dessert? See if your venue would allow you to bring in vegan cupcakes or something just for those 2 guests maybe. Also, can they not eat a salad for their starter?

Yeah, that's kind of crazy that everyone else gets 3 courses and they only have 1 for vegans. Is there a local restaurant with vegan food that could cater just those meals for you? Have them drop off the meals and have them served with everyone else's food.

Yes, I’m going to ask. They have vegan tray pass options which we will have at cocktail hour.

Do they not offer a salad? This is an easy vegan starter.

That is rude to skip them. Can they be served a salad for starter and a fruit plate for dessert? I find it difficult to believe that a hotel will not accommodate those things if they expect to stay in business very long.

What Michelle said. I can't believe a hotel can't do this.

Yeah I also find this baffling that they can't do this. A plain salad or some roasted veggies or an eggplant with a bit of passata would be vegan. A fruit salad would be vegan!

I’d start with a salad or soup and have fruit for vegan pastries for dessert. Ask them if you could bring in the dessert yourself since it’s just for two people.

I expect that the venue doesn't want to be expected to bake or do a bunch of other prep work for the vegan app and dessert (which is ridiculous, but that's another story). I would definitely ask about a salad for an app and a fruit plate for dessert.

I talked to them about my concerns and they changed the dressing to vegan and also offered a fruit plate so you were spot on!

That was a first thing that I thought about - a fruit "bar" or plate... But for starters there's a lot pf possibilities too, can't they make a salad, something based on vegetables, salads..?

I'm confused how they couldn't make a salad for them. Maybe they don't have vegan dressings? But still. Definitely check with the venue again.

I had a curious thought: do they truly not have vegan ingredients in their kitchen or is the catering team not creative/skilled enough to adapt for a different food presentation? Possibly both? Either way makes the hotel look bad, not you.
