Ushers?

Paige, on June 21, 2016 at 12:56 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Is there a general rule on how many ushers you should have? Just trying to figure out what we all need but not sure how to go about it...

I'm having 2 and I've been ushering in many wedding before, it's mostly 2.

I think it depends on how many guest you will have.

I've read its 1 for every 50 guests you have. I am having 3 though so not really following that rule i guess with a 350 guest list.

We had two, and we had about 130 guests.

I had two for about 75 guests. That wasn't a conscious choice about numbers so much as we had two male relatives we wanted to incorporate into the wedding. We blurred the lines a lot on groomsmen and usher responsibilities.

I suppose it's best to think about how you'll use the ushers. Are they passing out programs and seating people?

We didn't have any either and we had 300 people. We had greeters but not actual ushers. Didn't see the need for them and we didn't miss having them.

Not having ushers. I think adults can make their way and sit their cute tushys to whatever chair they spot.

Ours would be passing out programs and seating people in the church...we will probably have around 200 guests so I was sure if we should do two or more than that.

We have 7 groomsmen, including two "junior." For our wedding, 4 of them will be involved with seating, 2 with passing out programs, and the BM will hang with FH. Still getting RSVPs, but def over 200 guests.

ETA--probably depends on how formal your event is. We're having a black tie event with a Catholic ceremony. I've noticed there generally seem to be more ushers at more formal types of services. For outdoors services, I rarely see them anymore.

I went to a 200+ person wedding in a large church a couple of months ago. They only had 2 ushers and there was definitely a line of people waiting to be seated. Since I'll have ~200 people in a large cathedral with two entrances, I'm planning on having 3 - 4 ushers.

We're having two of my nieces and two of his cousins (a boy and a girl) be ushers. They will tell help the older guests to their seats and inform everyone to not take pictures during the ceremony.. We wanted to incorporate some of our family members and thought this was a good way to do it!
