Ushers and Hostess

Tiffany, on July 30, 2019 at 10:03 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6

I want to have Ushers and Hostess at the ceremony. We are inviting about 200 people and the church is pretty big. The ushers will be responsible for escorting people to their seats in the church, and rolling out the isle runner. I was originally only going to to have 2 ushers but now I think I may need about 4. What do you think?

Also how many Hostess should I have? Their roles will be greeting the guest as they arrive to the church, hand them a program, and checking in guest for the reception during cocktail hour.

You could literally have zero of either with no issues, so whatever number you want is fine.

I understand, however having none is not an option I want. I am trying to figure out the number which will make the task most efficient. I want guest escorted to their seat, I'm trying to figure out what number of usher will help streamline this process without having tons of guest waiting at the door.

I have 3 best friends who are guys, and my FH didn't feel comfortable with having them as bridesmen (him and his family is very traditional). Because of this, I am having them be ushers. They will be greeting people as they arrive, escorting elderly family members to their seats, answering any questions guest might have before ceremony or reception. I don't think you NEED to have ushers, but for me it's more about including my best friends in my special day.

We are inviting 200-250 for wedding and reception. We are having our ceremony in a large church as well. We have 2 ushers and 2 hostesses. With the number of guests we are anticipating, I really think we need to add one more of each just for ease and efficiency. FH disagrees and wants to stick to the ones we already asked. Personally I think 3-4 for the number of guests you are having will be great. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things will go smoothly with what we have.

We are having two ushers for ~100 guests and they're doing both seating people as well as welcoming and handing out programs. I would think 4 would be sufficient for a big church

We invited 254 guests, and out of that we ended up with about 140 guest count. Ushers & Hostesses' were 1000% unnecessary. We set up a table at the beginning of the ceremony site that had the programs, water bottles, and our guest book. And we had a Day of Coordinator that ran around making sure everything was okay. No ushers or hostesses needed, and guests were capable of finding a seat on their own. HOWEVER, that is my experience, and you are wanting something different...this is YOUR wedding after all. I was just telling you, so you don't stress over it thinking you HAVE to have them. Therefore, I'd probably suggest 2 x hostesses and around 4 x ushers.
