usa Honeymoon (we aren't old enough to rent a car in another country hahaha)

Cayla, on May 29, 2019 at 11:01 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 29

Any suggestions on nice places to honeymoon (7-10 days) in the US?! We will both be 23 by the time we get married and have thought about possibly Atlanta, GA or maybe somewhere in Florida (we are from VA/TN) but unsure. Any suggestions on somewhere nice, fun, but not super super expensive haha I'd say no more than 2.5k-3k (?) travel and all.

Suggestions on alternatives for if a rental car would normally be needed also haha we've talked about California but don't exactly want to drive from VA/TN alllllll the way across country lmao

TIA!! Smiley heart

Unless you go to a big city, you'll probably need to drive around in most US destinations. Have you thought about a cruise? No driving necessary and you can usually get a cruise for around $1k per person. All-inclusive resorts somewhere in Cancun/Riviera Maya would probably also run you around that budget without having to drive anywhere.

We’re fine with driving out own cars just can’t rent a car lol here you have to be like 25 I think? Also no we haven’t thought about a cruise that’s definitely a thought we’ll have to discuss and think over, thanks for the suggestions!

Most places will rent you a car if you’re under 25 there just might be a surcharge.

I live in Atlanta and you would definitely need a car here. Even if you were to go to a beach in Florida, you’d need a car to do most things. My suggestion would be to go on a cruise. You can easily fly into a port city and off you go!

Costco Travel has very reasonably priced cruises.

Oh! I’m that case! You could have a great time in 7-10days! You could start with 2-3 days in the North Georgia mountains. They have gorgeous cabins up there. My fiancé and I take weekend trips there often. It’s really quiet. You could spend a few days in the city doing touristy stuff. I’d also take advantage of Savannah, which is only 4 hours from Atlanta. It’s an amazing city and would be great for a honeymoon! Hilton Head is close to Savannah as well!

You should look into hotel resorts and all-inclusive resorts. You can travel to places and use public transportation to get around. I flew to Los Angeles with a friend and we used public transit to get around.

We are renting a cabin in Asheville, NC for five days. Highly recommend! Definitely costs less than what your budget is. And it’s such a beautiful place with so much to do, especially if you enjoy nature.

The western coast of Florida is pretty nice. Check out Destin or Panama City Beach.

Maybe try a big city that doesn’t need a car and can use the metro. NYC, LA, Chicago? Alternatively, some places you don’t *need* a car, and can use Uber’s, like Nashville, Miami or Montreal.

A lot of rental companies in the US won't rent to under 25 also and if they do it'll cost you a premium.
I second a cruise, look into a large walkable city, which means not Florida! Up here in Boston is very walkable and historic.
All included resorts and vacation packages would be a good choice not only for driving but then you don't need to do any planning!
You might be able to do a few days in Europe with an all inclusive tour for that price but it'd be a little short.

St. Augustine in Florida is really lovely, and there are some resorts on the beach there. Pigeon Forge is kind of classic, and close to where you are. Niagara Falls is also classic, and it's a pretty drive. I also second flying to CA (I'd do San Francisco, though, rather than LA) and use public transportation. But the cruise is a spectacular idea!

I have actually never rented a car anywhere I have ever traveled, nationally or internationally. Most major cities in the US have transportation options of some kind that doesn't require renting a car. Usually I take public transportation or an Uber if needed. And when I travel out of the country I definitely don't rent a car because I don't want to drive somewhere that I don't know the road laws or language. Anywhere we want to get to we take a cab/uber or there are shuttles available from the resort.

To answer your question, maybe New Orleans? I think that's drive-able from where you live and easy to get around once you're there.

We are going to Cancun for 5 days and spent less than 3k for everything. Flights, food, drinks, and transportation to and from the airport. Costco travel and Expedia had the best deals.

Charleston, SC is great too! Lots to do and you can even take a day trip to Savannah, GA. We were able to find a cute AirBNB in Charleston last year and had so much fun!

We're going to Destin, FL from Northern VA.

We're looking at $2,500 (Flights, airbnb, food, rental car, and excursions). If you guys are willing to drive it'd probably cost 1k less! But it's a verrrrryyyyyy long drive from where we are in VA so flights were a must for us. We'll need a rental car but we're 23/26 so it won't be an issue for us.

You could also check out Gatlinburg TN, Savannah GA, or New Orleans!
