us honeymoon spots in October

Erin, on December 26, 2022 at 8:17 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10
My fiance and I are trying to come up with a place for our honeymoon. We are from Kentucky. He is a mega nerd, I enjoy photography, we both enjoy history and spooky stuff (we got engaged in Salem Ma), he can't do a lot of hiking unfortunately as he is a disabled veteran, he has metal in his ankle. We have a list of places we refuse to go to but we have valid reasons. I know it sounds very limiting but I am trying to figure out places that are appealing to both of us. We definitely want to try new places and it's sometimes hard as he has traveled a lot more than me and I have about a billion places I want to go to lol. We especially love foodie places bc we like to try new restaurants that aren't chains. We are trying to keep it pretty affordable as my job has cut hours due to the economy, hoping for it to bounce back soon otherwise I'm getting a 2nd job.

We do NOT want the following places:
Anywhere in Tennessee (we can legit go to Tennessee any time and my day job is actually based out of Nashville, plus everyone from my state goes to gatlinburg for their honeymoons and i just dont see the point)Anywhere in Ohio (legit can go any time to Ohio, legit went twice in September of this year so it's not a destination that gives any excitment)Anywhere in Missouri (he did basic training and AIT there, he despises the state as a whole and frankly I've been myself and don't see anything for us there)Anywhere in Indiana (Again we've both been and can go any time and I had family there so it's not an exciting destination)Washington DC (we've been)Chicago (we've both been)Salem MA (was our original idea but it's booked and will be too much for our anxiety since it will be peak season)Disney (I honestly have zero desire to go there, I know it's weird but I've never wanted to go, plus he doesn't ride rides due to PTSD)Texas (he was deployed to the border in 2020, I honestly have several places in Texas I want to go but getting him to agree is non-existent right now)Myrtle Beach (we've both been)

Northern California is beautiful in October (San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, Monterey/Carmel, Lake Tahoe...).

New Orleans is great in October. They have spooky ghost tours. You can visit historical vampire and witch hunting sites. They have Tons of food spots as well

New Orleans French Quarter! It’s absolutely beautiful weather in the fall. Lots of unique nerdy, spooky, history stuff (Highly suggest the haunted history tour through Witches Brew Tours- ask for Mac! And the cemetery tours are great also!) And there are tons of amazing restaurants! Unless you are into the party/frat boy/bro scene, I would suggest avoiding bourbon street. Instead, check out Frenchmen Street (and basically any of the other streets in the French Quarter aside from bourbon lol).

Savannah, GA would be a cool spot! It's not too cold yet by October, so you can still enjoy the outdoors. They do a bunch of historical tours during the day that you could either walk or be driven for, and at night they have ghost tours. I know at least on of the tour companies do their night tours in a hearse with the top taken off (kind of like a convertible). There's also a lot of unique restaurants and things too.

I'll second New Orleans and Savannah and add Charleston, South Carolina to the list

I third New Orleans, such a good time, pedestrian friendly and easy transportation, with lots of great ghost tours, tons to see, and cool witchy history. Lots of great music and not just limited to the French Quarter. As a New Englander that loves Salem, October, and all things fall I can also say, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine are gorgeous locations in the states that time of year. Experience the leaves and more New england history I would just book it soon because it books up fast.

I third Savannah. We are going there in November for our honeymoon. It's known as the most haunted city in America and has tons of history and is a great foodie spot. And there are tons of free and low cost transportation options if the walking becomes too much. And the weather there in October is perfect!

As a New Englander who loves all things Autumn, I agree with Andrea's New England recommendations as well!

Also agree with New Orleans! It sounds like it meets most of, if not all, of your criteria, and it should be pretty easy to come up with an itinerary
