Uplighting in Outdoor Tents

Lala, on February 1, 2016 at 1:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I'm currently working on getting a DJ and uplighting for my enclosed outdoor wedding tent. Currently working with someone who seems promising. However during our conversation he advised against uplighting because of potential dangers. He stated that the cords would be a guest hazard and the canned lights would get really hot and pose a risk for kids. Anyone ever have an enclosed tent reception with uplighting and have major issues such as the ones he is describing?

A friend of mine totally tripped face first over some uplighting at SILs RD.

It was kinda bad. She hurt herself and burned herself.

That sounds horrifying. I was hoping to get uplighting to give the tent a more indoor formal feel and make my pictures look better. Any ideas for safer alternatives?

Hi C! What about keeping the lighting high, like bistro lighting in the tent ceiling rails? At the posts and center you could have a gathering of lanterns, floral arrangement, or chandelier.

There are lots of samples of this on Pinterest.

I don't know about the cords, can't the vendor tape them down to prevent tripping?? I love @Kathleen Smith Photography's suggestion. Can they provide uplighting that starts high up at the edge of the tent? Picture examples below:

Our tent company has lights that attach to the tent poles. We aren't using colored lights, just normal and then a bunch of bistro/twinkle lights. They're also on a dimmer so that we can control "the mood" from dinner lighting to dancing lighting. They make color gels for the flood lights though. Definitely sounds like a safer option!
