Uplighting Colors

Lala, on August 19, 2016 at 12:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

With the wedding coming up fast, I'm now in the process of picking out uplighting colors! Right now I'm thinking of going with a brighter champagne color during dinner, transitioning to a peachy pink during programming (http://www.djjer.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Redmond_Wedding-105_Logo.jpg), then a dark amber-orange during dancing (http://www.chicoweddingrentals.com/750_500_csupload_45138896.jpg?u=58343015). The idea is to make the wedding tent glow like a warm log cabin in the woods in autumn.

I'm been told that peachy-pink is a universally flattering uplight color. However, I've read conflicting articles that amber and orange does not look good in photos. I've also been told that my wedding photos will look too "Halloween" if I go with orange uplighting, and to also avoid purple, blue, green, and red.

I've heard so many "if you do this your pictures will look awful" comments that I've almost stopped caring about pics. However, really, what uplight colors are best? Thanks!

I've seen plenty of pretty purple and blue uplights. I think this is one thing where you're thinking way too hard about it. Pick something you like and move on Smiley smile

I think this is totally preference. I am not a fan of the pink/purple uplightings. But I've seen so many people do them and love them. Totally a matter of taste.

I am going with an light amber color. I told my DJ, I just wanted it to look like candle light. He said he is going to mix a color and make it work.

I'm also debating this...I was going between a peachy pink or blush color and amber. I'm wanting it to look warm, but not too orange.

Depending on how big your tent is, I think your ideas sound fine. A good photographer will know how to adjust photos for the lighting he is photographing.

Mine were pink! And bright! I dunno....I liked the bright colors of mine. I've seen ranges, even green uplights that end up looking great. I haven't really seen it look bad with a color, just spacing.

Janeen I love your photo!!! The green and pink look amazing together.

I agree with PP and go with what you think. I feel like the burnt orange color will definitely give you that warm feeling you are looking for. Maybe you can alternate a few keeping them champagne colored so its not too orange?

    Wow great pics!

The burnt orange with champagne sounds like a good idea. My colors are actually fall colors with the bridesmaids dresses being burnt orange. A friend cautioned me not to make sure I don't end up looking orange in photos, but I think at that point the photographer will be wrapping up so no more worries about photos. *shrugs* Like I said, at this point I feel like there is so much focus on making sure the photos look perfect that I want to say "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PHOTOS".

Then I look at how much I'm paying for pics and yeah. Smiley laugh

I recently read an article in Boston Brides or something like that that claimed amber was an extremely flattering uplighting choice, esp. w/r/t photography. I'm sure you'll look great either way!

Amber seems to always be the #1 recommended choice to enhance the room with uplighting. My DJ, who will be supplying ours, says it will compliment the lit candles in our centerpieces well.

I am most likely using blue uplights with maybe some coral or peachy color as an accent.
