Uplighting color?

SoontobeStuddard, on November 10, 2015 at 3:32 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

We added the uplighting package to our DJ due to the fact that our venue has florescent lighting and we wanted to keep them off.

He's asking me what color I want the lighting to be. Our wedding colors are pink, gray, and ivory..so I suggested amber because it would look more soft than white.

Is amber going to be too orangey? What would you suggest?

I've heard amber makes it look like candlelight so I think that would be nice! I'm trying to decide if I want to do something more neutral like that or go with a turquoise and really play up the beach theme. Decisions, decisions.

We used amber - it was highly recommended as the color to go with, by our venue.

I plan on using amber. I love the more natural tones but it's a matter of preference. Purple and pinks tend to make it difficult for photography. Your pro will be able to edit it out though!

I told my DJ that I wanted a light amber that looked like candlelight. He's mixing a color that matches what I want.

That's exactly what my DJ said, he can mix to create amber.

Glad to know that my head is on straight!

I think that's a great choice! I hate when there is a bright purple or pink and all the pictures turn out that color.

My colors are blush and ivory, and our DJ recommended Amber for our uplighting as well. He said that it would give the candlelit effect in the venue. Attached is a photo of our venue that he sent with it in amber just to give you an idea.

We are going to use the amber tone, and from what I've heard and seen I think it's supposed to be more of the soft white/candlelight tone that you're imagining. It would probably give the space a "softer" feel.

We used pink and amber. You really want something that is going to make people's faces look good. (I kind of wince at blue uplighting, for example.)

Keep in mind whatever color you decide on, that color will wash into everything else; wardrobe, skin tones, haircolor, décor ... everything. While a photographer color balances primarily for skin tones, uplighting does effect absolutely everything else and that cannot be edited out. Amber is safest and most pleasing on skin tones.
