Updo or downdo

Ashley, on February 21, 2020 at 5:33 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 18
I’ve always thought I would wear my hair up for my wedding because it would be less sweaty and it would be nice to have it out of the way. However, I’ve had a couple trial runs with some low bun styles and I haven’t been thrilled. I’m wondering if I should wear it down or like half up half down look. Any thoughts ?

You can do both ! I considered up for the ceremony and then letting it down for the reception

Any chance you could do another trial with a half down half up do and see if you like it? I absolutely love wedding up dos but I don't think I have the right head shape for it (I know ,that's a weird sentence), so I'm considering the half up half down as a compromise Smiley smile

I did an updo, but a low bun wouldn’t have worked on me. Research some other styles you might like that are higher up.

I totally get the head shape thing. I’m worried that if my hair is down in any way it’ll get really sweaty and not look nice after a little dancing.

Hm... maybe you need more of a higher up do, like Laura suggested. Those can be very classy, elegant, and stay away from your neck.

Ask yourself what do you want over a thousand pictures of yourself looking like? I did half up/down because that is what I’m comfortable with and I wanted to feel beautiful.

Thats a really good point. I don’t know how I want to look on my wedding day. I’m bad at visualizing what isnt in front of me😣 but I guess I liked my prom hair, which was an up do

I had this problem for forever. Was worried for the same reasons. Did my trial run with an updo that she did awesome on but it didn't feel "me". I'm going with it down as I feel so much prettier that way. Do what makes you feel your prettiest.

But what about the sweat??? Down is gorgeous, no doubt, but won’t the sweaty neck bother you? And aren’t you worried the sweat will straighten the curls out?

I have anxiety about the sweat

When is your wedding? Mine is end of March and in FL (destination wedding). I'm not worried about it honestly. You'll sweat with an updo too lol if you have a good HMUA they'll help with a down do to make sure your hair looks good through out the day. I researched mine before I booked her and she has done hair in Hawaii and FL which are both humid places so she knows how to make curls last in that type of weather. I even inquired about that and she reassured me it really is about knowing your products and how to style and set the hair. If you're expecting perfection you're going to be very disappointed day of. Just go for it!

It’s in April in Arkansas, so the most unpredictable weather State in the most unpredictable month, but it is indoors. My hair and make up artist are two different people, but I don’t expect perfection. I think I’ll go for the up do, just so my hair isn’t wet with sweat. I just have to find the right style bow

Crazy coincidence, just moved from AR to St. Louis so I totally get what you're saying! Sounds like you figured it out though 😉

Yeah, sometimes I just need someone to talk me through it! Most of my friends just say “do what you want to do” and I don’t know what I want lol😂

I wanted an updo for the longest time and was planning to go for a high bun type updo. However I have long think hair so I can really do anything and I feel so beautiful with my hair down and curled. Then my friends came with me to try on my dress when it came in and I asked them about hair and they were all like “DEFINITELY DOWN” so it’s been decided lol but I have a trial coming up. Side note I sweat a lot and my hair is long and thick but I’m not worried about it because it is mostly inside and April in North Carolina is very tame, unhumid weather. I just want to feel my most confident and beautiful!

I’d love to know what it’s like to be in a non humid climate! My hair isn’t very very long or crazy thick. But I do sweat a fair amount and I have a habit of trying to keep all my hair off my neck anyway or brush it behind my ears. I think I’m gonna go for a low bun so that it’s mostly off my neck, but still has an elegant look to it.

I have very long hair and love it curly. I may ask her to style it half up half down the ceremony and pictures and then pin it up into an updo for the reception.
