Update

Hi guys. I haven't been up here in a while but I have an update. I got married yesterday at the courthouse. Just felt like it was better to get that out of the way. What do you guys think about an actual wedding 1 year from the courthouse wedding?

Congrats! I’m doing small this year and the big one next year. How did you guys celebrate after?

Due to the pandemic, we didn't do anything at all.

You and hubby can pop a bottle of champagne and order to-go a nice dinner to celebrate if you guys wanted. It is a weird time to celebrate but still enjoy it.

We did have a little dinner but he didn't feel well so I babied him a little.. I'm on the overnight shift all week so we most likely won't get to toast until Memorial day

Congratulations! If you want to do a vow renewal in a year with a big celebration then go for it.

Congrats to you! I wish we could do a courthouse wedding & postpone our wedding til next year. (Hey, it’s still a possibility!) No one has to know you already got married! Just schedule it for next year. If it becomes a major issue just say you’re renewing your vowels. 😜

My sister did this exact thing. She and her husband moved across the country, and went ahead and did a courthouse thing, but planned on having the actual wedding a year later back on this side of the country with all the friends and family present. She called the first one her "marriage date" and the second one the "wedding date." It worked out really well, and she said it was actually a bit of a relief, when it came to planning. The literal MARRIAGE part was already done, so it was just planning an event at that point.

Sounds like a good idea, why not? I’ve seen it done. I’m thinking about just getting married on my date anyway and then holding some party lol. Everything is out of my hands so I don’t know if my venue would adjust the guest count or if I will have to reschedule...

Same... The silver lining though, is that I’m not stressed about the minor stuff as much and care more about the bigger picture like getting married and celebrating with the ones I loved most (closest friends and family). I still care about some things though like photography and how I look that day lol.

Sure! That’s what many covid couples are planning to do. We aren’t going to postpone the wedding unless our venue cancels. If that happens, we plan to still get married on our date and then have the celebration we planned later. Like you, it would just be the 2 of us at first, because I wouldn’t want some of our guests to feel obligated to attend twice.

I know a girl that did exactly this! They got married at the courthouse then in a year they had a beautiful ceremony and reception as if it was their actual wedding. She wore a wedding dress, had bridesmaids, flowers, said "I do" and kissed.. the whole nine yards! It turned out beautifully, and all her friends and family still showed up and thought the day to be just as important as if they weren't already married yet! I would recommend doing this. Don't feel like just because you're technically already married that you don't need to celebrate! It'll be worth it!
